Another method?
Wouldn't a better method be to count up the number of POTMs that someone has?

Re: Poster of the year?
I say lets give it to Ned. He is at least as deserving as anyone else, and besides...once we give him an award we won't have to worry about it next year! You have my vote, Nosey!

Re: Poster of the year?
[Yanukovych emulation on]
No! I protest the overwhelming election of NosyNed to Poster of the Year. I intend to file millions of spurious complaints with the State Constitutional Court and tie this up until the next election cycle. Especially since I wasn't even nominated. Hah, democratic pigs. Take that.

Re: Poster of the year?
I think nobody chose you because it was during your period of none-activity that the thread was made.
I think Rei would have got many more votes if she had stuck around aswell.
As for Ned, it seems we're forcing it onto him coz the adminites are procrastinators.

Re: Poster of the year?
And I protest too!!
Just 'cause the choice isn't who I would choose. Why don't we have a serious one of these.
Not for poster but for post of the year, choosen form the POTM picks.

Re: Poster of the year?
I think you have a great idea that might even be carried out slightly further.
First, I believe that the POTM forum is a great place for EVERY new poster to get aquainted with what EvC is, when it is at its best.
I would like to see the individual messages all gathered into one place so that new members can quickly and easily read through all of them (and to prevent future problems that might arise with links or databases) .
Second, I would like to see the best of various examples brought together, the best explanations of science, the best examples of supporting an assertion, the best synthesis of an idea.
Third, it would be nice to honor not a Poster of the Year, but rather posters who over an extended period produce consistently great material. We are fortunate to have quite a few posters here at EvC who could well be nominated for every single one of their posts, Sylas and Bill come to mind as well as Trixie and Brian. These are people who simply never miss, who contribute greatly to the level of conversation and discourse that has become the norm at EvC. They are an example that gives each of us a goal, a challenge to live up to.
Can I suggest that each of the Admins add a link to the POTM forum to our signatures and point new users towards it as a way to quickly become familar with EvC.
In addition, is there some way that the individual message could be gathered into an informal anthology as described above?
I think that would do more for EvC than awards or acknowledgement.

Well said.
Ned's idea is good.
BTW. I know we enjoy a fight or two with eachother Jar, but I think that POTM I nominated you for is an excellent effort - worthy of post of the year.

Wow, this is really hard. There are so many good posters here.
I need to think more about this, but I do think the Poster (or is it Poseur??? ) of the Year should be someone who not only consistently contributes good posts in a variety of topics, but who also interacts well with others.
