Fred Phelps most certainly is serious. He's been around for a long while.

Re: Phelps does Christianity WRONG!
The important point to remember is that Fred Phelps is not an aberration. Gene Scott uses similar language to describe other Christians. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson say the same things but use slightly more PC language. Benny Hinn is perhaps even more vulgar and disgusting.
Unfortunately, Fred Phelps is simply one of many that have found that there is GOLD in preaching hate and exclusion.

Condeming!
You bring up a great point. Why doesn't the Christian community actively condemn many voices such as Phelps?
I believe that it does. And not just on message boards but from pulpits and even in the media. But unfortunately, there is also a very large group of people who support and concur with everything he says.
IMHO the likes of Fred Phelps and Benny Hinn are actually far more typical of modern Christianity than any of us would like to believe. There are also the bigots and blasphemers like Pat Robertson (who would still like to be President), Jerry Falwell (who would still like to control the President), Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Gene Scott and Bob Larson. There is also the organization that built TBN led by Paul Crouch. This organization is the funding platform and training ground for the next generation of shock-jock bigots and hate mongers.
As Christians I believe we HAVE to acknowledge such people and speak out against them. Unfortunately, they produce entertainment that people watch, while my voice goes unheard. They are the WWF, the Reality TV, the Growing Up Gotti of religion, and like the WWF, immensely popular.
The big question is "Why is there such a large audience for such juvenile and anti-social behavior?"

Try a trace route to the addresses and see where they stop.

Re: Phelps does Christianity WRONG!
The first step (assuming your on a windows box) is to see if tracert is a supported command. From a command prompt type
tracert Forbidden
If it finds a route to the site it will print a list of each machine it went though to get there.
But that will not tell you everything. It's possible that only certain ports (in the case of websites port 80) are being blocked.
But step one, tracert.
If on a UNIX or Linux box (or mac OS X) the command is traceroute.

Re: Phelps does Christianity WRONG!
Okay. Then his sites have likely been removed from your DNS server. To reach them you'd need to use a different DNS server.
At a command prompt type ipconfig /all and see who your DNS servers are?

Re: Phelps does Christianity WRONG!
try a simple nslookup. It will tell you what DNS server you're using.

Re: Phelps does Christianity WRONG!
Actually, the root servers usually simply have lists of authoritative servers and not all the actual addresses IIRC.
One thing holmes could do is try an nslookup on GHF and then point his dns to the dns server for GHF. It appears that america, sweden and canada are all on the same server which is 65.16.52.66 so he's using virtual domains for them. Fags is on 64.246.41.6. He is using 65.15.52.68 ns1.speakfree.net as his nameserver and is using two additional servers as name servers for fags.
Bunch of servers and lots of duplication there. Not just some backroom home setup.

No problems. Feel free to ask anything, I may well lack answers but can likely point you in the right direction.
And as an aside, I'm surprised you were surprised.
