Well I listened to the interview.
Since Stephen Green said that Christian Voice wouldn'thave taken out th account in the first place if they had known that the Cooperative Bank was involved in Gay Pride marches I really don't see much of an issue. Neither side really wants to do business with the other, and Christian Voice have 30 days to set up a new account with someone else.
I also find it itneresting that Green described simple participation in Gay Pride marrches as "aggressively pro-Gay" but apparently didn't bat an eyelid when it was pointed out that Christian Voice had claimed that homosecual police officers were automatically unfit to take part in corruption investigations.

It seems to be the extreme nature of the views - at least as expressed by the group. I've had a browse on the sebsite and their views are..odd. Apparently accepting the various convnetions on human rights are a violation of the Fist COmmandment
The "Jerry Springer: The Opera" business was some weeks ago. I can't see any reason to assume that that incident was a direct cause. At most it may have triggered an investigation.

Re: Yet more misrepresentation.

You aren't making any sense. No I don't hate homosexuals and I don't attack their character either.
Yet it appears that Christian Voice does. You said that you were with them. Are you or aren't you ?

Christian voices on "Christian Voice"
Adrian Warnock's UK Evangelical Blog
http://www.adrian.warnock.info/...oice-banned-from-co-op.htm
The Christian voice are not known for their tact and frankly what they say in this PDF on police and homosexuality is not wise, and not in my view the right way for a Christian Group to go about speaking about any group. I almost hesitate to quote this as it is so homophobic, but I feel that I should.
The entry goes on to quote what Christian Voice has to say.
Connexions (a Methodist minister's Blog) agrees:

Ekklesia has more:

Christian Voice is considered an extreme organisation by British church representatives. It says it opposes One World government and wishes to see the re-introduction of the death penalty, withdrawal from the European Union and the arming of the UK population.
Other CV policies include the outlawing of abortion, the building of as many nuclear power stations as are necessary, a prohibition on sex education in schools, the re-introduction of hunting, Christian evangelism supported through public funds, and the removal of charitable status from bodies promoting other faiths and those hostile to the Christian faith.
However the group went on to exert pressure on a Scottish charity to refuse a 3000 donation that would help cancer sufferers, because cast members from the Jerry Springer show had been involved in raising it at a Cathedral concert.
Christian Voice director Stephen Green also caused widespread offence by refusing to offer any compensation to the cancer sufferers and by saying that he wished to reverse the stereotype of Christianity as "a religion for women and wimps".
I think that that attitude speaks for itself.

Re: Christian voices on "Christian Voice"
From the sites quoted above it is clear that Christian Voice makes extreme statements that are not representative of the wider Christian community.
Thus there is no basis for claiming that the action taken by the Cooperative Bank is aimed at anything more than one extremist group. To claim that it is aimed at Christians in general is to ignore the nature of Christian Voice. To claim that the Cooperative Bank's action is based solely on the statement that homosexuality is sinful as Christian Voice claims is also false.
As the Cooperative Bank says
The Co-operative Bank asked Christian Voice to close its account on the basis of the hateful and offensive statements they peddle, and their aim of stigmatising people who are homosexual. Their statements go far beyond the view held by some Christians that 'homosexuality is a sin:' alleging that homosexuals are 'formed' via paedophilia (and that they will in turn propagate this further), and that their innate 'corruptness' renders them unfit for the police force.
Latest Statement on Christian Voice
Whatever you think of the Cooperative Bank's actions, Christian Voice's handling of the situation has been less than honest. If they really represent Christianity, why doesn't their press release admit to the true reasons they were asked to close their account ?

Re: An open call to those who support Abstinence
The real question is whether abstinence-based programs are primarily intended to promote abstinence for its own sake or to reduce teenage pregnancy and the transmission STDs.
On the latter criterion the evidence suggests that it is a failure and that a broader approach (perhaps best summed up as "be good, but if you can't be good, be careful") is more effective.
I suspect that most of the supporters of abstinence-based programs really have the first view in mind, even if they say otherwise.

Re: An open call to those who support Abstinence
It's not a question of "working" or "not working", it is a question of which works better. And it seems that programs that include accurate infromation on precautionary measures are more effective at preventing STDs and teenage pregnancy even if there is some dilution of the pro-abstinance message.
