Hey Percy,
Here's 20 mins worth of testing. Only 1 bug I think though, but I'm listing the others because I hadn't tested them before anyway. I'll keep searching for a bit longer. Ben New bugs:- Can't update my avatar. (getting a 500 Server Error) Maybe new, probably old bugs:- The "Clear Fields" button doesn't work after clicking "preview" - Clicking light-blue "unread posts" buttons in Forum list (turning them to dark blue) doesn't seem to have a long-term effect.AbE: This seems to be new. Even from my message list (the page I'm taken to when clicking my own name), if I click some of the light-blue buttons and click refresh, I get... some weird random changes, definitely not reflecting what I clicked. - Links to the forums from the Site Map are broken (see http:///WebPages/SiteMap.html) - If I specify "DO NOT SAVE MY LOGIN ACROSS SESSIONS" at registration time, the "Save login" option IS STILL SELECTED in the "profile" page (after successful registration / login), and the login is saved after exiting browser / loading from scratch (I made sure the browser app wasn't in memory at all) even though i said no. - If I explicitly log out (click "logout"), but I have "save login" checked, then if I exit the browser and boot another browser (from scratch, it's not loaded in memory), I am still logged in. (this is a problem) This message has been edited by Farva, Sunday, 2005/09/04 06:08 PM This message has been edited by Farva, Sunday, 2005/09/04 06:27 PM I don't want a large Farva, I want a goddamn liter-a-cola.

New Bug:
Search is giving me a 500 Server Error as well. AbE: This only happens when "Searching all Open Forums". If you search by forum group or a single forum, I'm having no trouble at all. Old Bug: Deleting a post gives you a "1 off" error in the counting of posts in a thread. And it doesn't go away when you add a new post, either. P.S. Sorry about that This message has been edited by Farva, Sunday, 2005/09/04 06:18 PM This message has been edited by Farva, Sunday, 2005/09/04 06:22 PM I don't want a large Farva, I want a goddamn liter-a-cola.

Hi Ben,
I know this sounds weird, but I think some of the problems you're hitting are because the new nameserver registration hasn't propagated everywhere yet. When the site first came up for me, smilies wouldn't display, then suddenly they started working. They still don't work for Jar. Search works for me. I don't see how incomplete nameserver propagation could cause these problem, but that's my guess. This message has been edited by Admin, 09-04-2005 09:28 PM

After further review... I found out Search is not broken for all cases;
It's only broken when doing a "Search All Open Forums." Search inside Forum Groups or a single forum worked just fine. So ... name propogation would be really weird. But maybe. Ben

I just glad we're back and getting ready for business. Kudos to Percy for the hard work and pulled hairs.

I second the thanks to Percy. I'm pretty sure he had some "elves'" help behind the scenes... thanks to everybody who made this happen.
I can't wait to start crankin' some rippin' searches. Woo hoo! I don't want a large Farva, I want a goddamn liter-a-cola.

Question: IE has a 20 cookie limit per domain, but are there browsers that have a higher limit? If so, see if the problem goes away in that browser. Explanation: EvC Forum uses 10 cookies, plus an additional 6 cookies for admins and moderators, plus an additional cookie for each user who logs in, plus the new webhost seems to be defining a few cookies on its own (e.g., ocw_lang, which EvC Forum did *not* create). Once you reach the 20 cookie limit, very unpredictable things happen to cookies. The "unread message" indicators are tracked with a cookie. Solution: Delete all cookies, which is the bottom link on the profile page. Long term solution: I will be embarking on a cookie reduction effort. Addenda: There *is * a minor bug with the "unread message" indicator, and I plan to fix this, too. It sometimes happens that the tracker cookie gets set to a time in the future for some threads, causing new messages to not be indicated. Addenda II: Since logins are also tracked with cookies, this is probably the cause of your login problems, too. Since you have admin privileges, go to Board Central, click on Board Settings, then on Print Cookies. Count the number of cookies. I bet it's at 20. Long term solution: I will be embarking on a cookie reduction effort. LOL!! And it's before 4:30am here, so I'm trying to be quiet. This statement has a good chance of becoming my new signature. Actually, when I print out my cookies, I get 22. Anyway, I'll clear all cookies, and then I'll see if the login stuff changes. I'll also test the changes you made in a bit. For now, I have to get going. Thanks for the updates.Ben

. It sometimes happens that the tracker cookie gets set to a time in the future for some threads, could this also be related to the different time zone settings? ben being west coast, 3 hours after east coast?

I notice that if I click on the light blue, it no longer marks that message as unread. But it also doesn't mark new messages in the thread as unread (at least for some time, often days). There *is * a minor bug with the "unread message" indicator, and I plan to fix this, too. It sometimes happens that the tracker cookie gets set to a time in the future for some threads, causing new messages to not be indicated. Is that the "bug" you mean? If it is, please don't fix it. It's not a bug, it's a feature It makes it easier for me to ignore a thread that I wish to ignore.
