american born, world citizen. at least i try to be.
i'm a christian but only because i was born that way and i think it's stupid to fiddle with titles when it's the journey that matters.
my constitution matters to me above anything else. the spirit it was founded in, and where it ought to evolve.

Re: Interesting stat.....
Hi HaggisnNeeps, welcome to EvCforum.
It's a good idea to build up some debating experience before you try any of the more controversial topics. I'm glad you decided to take that route.
I bet if you asked how many consider themselves to be allied to their favourite soccer team more than 'Britain' the number would be high.
Obviously you must be a Brit - perhaps Scottish, given your alias. Around here the national religion is American Football (sometimes called "gridiron").
Don't want to get in trouble for my first post.
I think you'll be okay. In any case, things are a little less strict for threads that are in the Coffee House.

Re: Interesting stat.....
I thought about starting another thread to discuss this but I thought it might be too much picking apart of CanadianSteve. If you are interested please start a new thread and I will join you there.
This thread is only to post your answer to the poll. What is more important? Your religion or your nationality?

Well, I was debating whether I post here...
Much as I love Ireland and all that, because it's a nice place to live, my religion is far more important than mere patriotism.
(I don't discuss my religion so don't ask.)

    Re: Interesting stat.....
Well if I HAVE to answer the question....
Seems to me like the only rational answer would be for anyone of religion to place their religion ahead of their country. After all your President/Prime Minister/whatever is only in charge for a few years and his word is hardly infallible. You're only of whatever nationality for 70 or 80 years anyway. Your religion defines the rest of eternity for you so it would HAVE to come first anyway.
For those of no religion (like myself) I don't see how they could place that ahead of their nationality purely because I can't imagine a situation where agnosticism would put you at odds with your country.
Actually I can't think of many situations where your religion would put you at odds with your nationality either.

That is why I asked atheist/agnostics not to answer.

That is kind of the punchline. OOPS. I said too much. We should let this poll continue without further discussion.
