In the Sharia law thread CanadianSteven pulled out a rather revealing statistic of a survey that said that only 12% of Moslems say they are more British then they are Moslem. This was in an attempt to show how British Moslems are rejecting integration into society.
The glaringly bigotry aside. I would like to see what the statistic is for those faithful of EvC.
Rules:
Only those who are practicing members of a world religion should vote. Atheist / Agnostic members should sit back and watch.
Simply state given a choice between being a faithful member of your religion or a citizen of your country which would you choose. No discussion or debate please.
Example. If you are an American and Christian, do you consider your faith in Christ or your status as a citizen of the U.S.A to be more important to you.
I'll start. As a Christian American who is a fervent patriot I would readily abandon my status as an American for my faith in Christ.
Lets all see if we can get a good poll going. All help is appreciated.

Clarification.
Just to clarify when we do a final count, is that a vote for your relgion over your nationality or the other way around?

The other way.
My main point is that I consider my membership of the world community more important than my nationality as associated with residence.

I think of myself as a Christian, scientist, explorer, educator long before I even think about being a British citizen. Not that I dislike being British, I just think that territorialism is the cause of much evil on the planet.

World religion?
Pagan always,
Earthling forever:
American until I move.
BTW, what is a world religion? Is it one that successfully grafted itself to a hegemonic power, past or present? Or is it a purely numerical qualification, and, if so, how high is the bar?

Agnositic/Atheist.
My nationality is an accident of birth. I love my country, but if I were asked to die for it, I'd think twice. I'd sooner die for my beliefs.

Christian
as a side note:
I'm a scientist who is catholic not a catholic who is a scientist, i mean science comes before religion for matters that are not up to faith alone.

Totally valid yet not the point of this poll. The choice here is nationality vs religion not career vs religion. Thanks!

Interesting stat.....
(New to this forum and don't feel like tackling any of the BIG questions yet so I'll test the water here)
That's an interesting figure taken in isolation but what does it actually mean? I don't think it stands alone to prove the point it was trying to make.
First of all what percentage of people who live/were born in Britain regard themselves as 'British' anyway (I can tell you its less than 100% that's for sure). Remember there are at least 4 nationalities that make up the UK before you even consider immigration.
Secondly what would be the figure for non-Muslims of other religions or no religion?
Thirdly what if you picked another non-religious factor? I bet if you asked how many consider themselves to be allied to their favourite soccer team more than 'Britain' the number would be high.
So this could simply be a statement of the rather ill-defined culture of Britishness and the priorities of the people of the UK rather than any commentary on the Muslim population.
Hope that's not too off topic. Don't want to get in trouble for my first post.
