For Evolutionists: Do you have any close friends who are Creationists and if so, does the issue ever arise in discussion between you? Do the differences in beliefs affect or challenge your friendships, if at all?
i dated a fundamentalist. creation/evolution was something we just didn't talk about, because we knew it would lead to fights. similarly, we tried not to talk about religion much even though we were both christians. we had some very different views.
needless to say, that caused a lot of problems.
we're still close friends, however.

yo mama
case in point, yesterday my mother's naivete ran out. she hasn't called me back yet.....
*insert nervous breakdown*
eh, whatever. just let it go. trust me, it's much easier. your mother is crazy, she'll always be crazy. your life will be easier if you just ignore her from time to time.
how do you think i deal with my mother (whose naivete has yet to run out)?

Re: yo mama
yes well. everytime i ignore crazy people, they tend to decide that i'm not worth anything.
your problem is that you care what she thinks about you. see, i lost all respect for my mother years ago -- her opinion of me doesn't really matter to me.

if you keep pestering her, she'll talk to you. heck, it worked for me. you just have to break through the cult-defense mechanisms...

Re: yo mama
no, really.
we're talking about someone i used to date, i think i mentioned her earlier in this thread. brenna and her and i were a little bit of a circle in early college. but, as you can guess, there was a little bit of a falling out. i don't want to go into in detail too much, because, well, i dunno if either her or brenna want their dirty laundry aired out on the internet.
but it does revolve around a certain degree of religious disagreement.

Re: yo mama
She's just worried about you, you know. She's scared. You can't blame her; that's her job as a mother.
she does have a very good mother. but also a very crazy mother. her mother and my mother are about the two worst-adjusted people on the planet. we compete at "who has the craziest mother."
brenna's currently beating me. but i dunno how long that'll last.

Re: yo mama
Because I wasn't working in the field that I studied in college, she told me that I had "wasted" the money she and my father had spent on my education. I was 25 at the time.
that's all you got?
i'm only 22 right now, and i'm already a failure because i almost have arts degree -- regardless of whether or not i use it eventually. but while we're on collegiate studies, my mother holds a masters degree in greek classics and worked for several years fixing the 1980 problem in COBOL for some company. now, she's a crazy old housewife who can't use a computer to write her 7-page emails without screaming tech support. and yes, she prints every single one of them, and files them in binders. (we've finally convinced her that she doesn't have to print the junk mail)
one time, i had to teach her how to use a ruler in order to figure what margin settings she had in a program. yes, you read that right, i had to explain how to use a ruler. i couldn't make up something like that.
she likes to make that "tsk" noise at anything even vaguely sexual these days, but will proceed to tell in detail about her sex life with my father. one time, she explained that the cash i borrowed for something was from their, uh, "savings" jar. she's turning conservative very quickly, looking down her nose at everyone she can, especially americans and black people. but she loves ellen degeneres, and pretends she's a lesbian.
we (brenna, brenna's b/f, and i) found during the hurricane that the only way to get her to shuttup about my little brother, unprovoked anti-religious ranting, or random racism is to get her drunk. she gets more inhibited with alcohol, not less. and we like it that way.
those are the things i consider amusing. want me to go on to the serious misgivings, marital and family issues, psychiatric issues, etc?

Re: yo mama is so crazy that ...
ps - sometimes {pot\hemp\mj\weed} works wonders on otherwise verobse visitors. My parents keep some in stock for a particular friend.
we've thought about getting her to try that...

Re: yo mama is so crazy that ...
personally, i'd never smoke it. but i'd never smoke tobacco either. she, on the other hand, could use all the help relaxing she can get. and sooner or later, it's that of psychiatric medication -- and honestly pot's probably safer.

Re: Mothers
yeah, i think having a certain degree of lunacy in your mother or father prepares you for dealing with the opposite sex in a mature way.
