My daughter is beginning to look at colleges, and she'd like to attend a school with an equestrian program. Horses are recreation to her, she's not a serious rider, but it's her most fun hobby. She goes to horse camp every summer for the entire summer, and beginning last year she was a junior counselor. She wants to major in English, and she'd like to be a writer.
Any recommendations out there?

Thanks for the help. She doesn't do hunters, or if she does I've never heard of it. I thought maybe I could get some specific recommendations. My daughter has a list of colleges with equestrian programs, but I've heard of almost none of them, so I don't know which are the good ones academically. Would it help if I posted her list?

List of Candidate Colleges
Hi all, here's the narrowed down list of colleges my daughter is considering because they have equestrian programs, except for the first one which she's only considering because she heard good things about it (not from me, I was surprised to see it on her list, but as a legacy she has a good chance of getting in):
  • Carnegie Mellon
  • Denison
  • Gettyburg
  • U of Miami
  • U of Redlands
  • Furman
  • Elon
  • U of NC
  • Charleston
  • Pepperdine
Myself, I'm most interested in the academic quality of these institutions, and I'll pass on any equestrian program info to my daughter.

Hi Schraf,
Yes, finally seen it! Thanks for persisting. Don't know how I missed it. Anyway, that's just the kind of information I need, I'll see what my daughter thinks. She's a junior counselor at the summer horse camp she goes to, only a couple hours from you, by the way - it's called Brown Ledge.

Re: List of Candidate Colleges
Thanks, I'll mention it to my daughter so she can look it up. Is it wallet friendly? Nothing else she's looking at is, so it would be nice to find a reasonable option.
