Can someone please explain to me why this is such a big issue?

At best, you have used a tu quoi fallacy against Foley.
I personally don't see anything legally wrong with what Foley did. I have a moral objection (that's right, folks) to such an act, but that's only my opinion. The only reason Foley is getting tarred and feathered is because he is someone well known. If someone else less well known did the same thing, it would have gone by without a single person noticing.
As much as I don't like the morals and values crowd that seems to be taking over, I really don't see why I should sink to their level and be an opportunist/sensationalist at something like this.
Hell, if what foley did warrants an arrest, then I guess my professor in college should be shot...
And come on, am I to believe that a 16 year old is as innocent as the press makes him out to be?

I'm sorry, a what? A quick Google search turns up only one hit for "tu quoi fallacy" - you, using it in a gay marriage thread on this website.
Hey, french isn't my first language or is that latin?
But I have never illegally propositioned a minor for sex. So how could I possibly be using tu quoque? I have nothing to defend.
The fallacy also is committed when you accuse the other side of being a hypocrit, which has nothing to do with the issue itself.
No, the reason is because he was a powerful politician who drafted and passed legislation that clearly, he didn't believe he was obligated to obey. He believed he was above the laws he drafted for the rest of us. He did exactly what should be illegal, and is - using power, position, and age to coerece sexual activity from minors.
Again, pointing out hypocrisy does nothing to strengthen your case. The question is has he done anything illegal?
I believe that's an immediate disqualification for leadership. Apparently you don't agree?
So, you admit to having a moral objection to his hypocrisy and because of this moral objection you think he should not be a leader?
Oh, sure. That hussy was asking for it, dressed as (s)he was.
I'm not saying that at all. He certainly didn't tie the kid down and butt rape him. At anytime if the kid felt uncomfortable he could have blocked any further im.
This is at worse a 52 year old man embarrassing himself in front of a few 16 year olds.

In 1983 two congressmen, a rep and dem, were censured at the same time for having sex with pages about the same age as Foley's page, one female and one male. Thus there certainly was precedent for knowing sex with pages was an internal issue.
I think it's been made clear to us that Foley did wait until the pages were no longer pages before he im them those horny messages. Again, while I don't like what he did, I absolutely don't find any reason why he and his party are being under attack from all fronts like this. The guy resigned, end of story.

Unfortunately I missed that part. Now it makes even less sense.
School started again. Those kids left washington to go back to school.
Added by edit.
The reason I am so bothered by the liberals going all gung ho about this is because WE should be talking about THE REAL IMPORTANT ISSUES, like congress giving the president to suspend habeas corpus for non-citizens.
Over and over we see someone's personal life being more important than an national/international issue? What are we, a nation of gossipers?
Almost overnight, people everywhere completely forgot about the habeas corpus issue and started talking about an old man's personal life. This is like when Matthew Sheppard got tortured to death because he was gay. The liberal media gave the unfortunate young man 2 minutes of their broadcast time before going back to talk about Clinton's sex life. What worse, when christians (or so they claimed to be) protested at sheppard's funeral and wanted to erect a monument welcoming him to hell, the liberal media ignored it completely and continued to talk about Clinton's sex life.
It's fun to joke about Foley, I admit, but now they want to spend my tax dollar to investigate an old man's fantasies. Sounds corny if you ask me.

Because there are more important issues than an old man's fantasies?
