Hi I have just finished reading YOUR BODY by Keith Harrison, and this has been my introduction to the theory of evolution. I am looking for some recommendations or ideas about what I should read next.
The theory of evolution as I read it was quite interesting but not totally convincing. For me it doesn't quite answer the questions, where did I come from, where am I, and where am I going???
any ideas for my next book?
many thanks, OGON

Re: Book recommendation for Ogon
Hello, thanks for the reply.
I visited my local book shop but they couldn't help me with the book you suggested. Next stop, AMAZON.
I am quite interested in the evolution theory and would like to read up on creation by design. I think that's what it is called?
thanks again, ogon

Re: Book recommendation for Ogon
Hi, and that's what I meant, sorry I didn't make myself clear!
Yes, it seems to me from my limited reading and knowledge that evolution does have a pretty good hold on how life could have evolved on earth.
BUT, I can't quite accept that evolution can be totally responsible. Especially when it comes to humans.
It's difficult to explain because I'm limited in terms of scientific knowledge and language as to what I can say to get my point over. Intuition plays a part in what I think about how life evolved on earth and I'm not so sure I can credit evolution, as I understand it ,with my intuition!
I also believe that life does and must go on after death. With humans anyway. Now, I can't produce an experiment to prove that somehow I will pass on to the other side can I ? It's down to my intuition.
In this respect, do people who believe in evolution, also believe that life ends with the death of a human? No sensory interaction with the earth so no existance?
So I guess, yes I agree that generally life has evolved on earth, i.e. from fish 2 reptiles 2 primates e.t.c. BUT I can't relate this totally to what it is to be human!
NOW, that is gonna sound like a load of waffle to you so I shall stop there. If by any chance you feel you can answer any of my questions or you have the time to get involved with my enlightenment please feel free.

Re: Moving from Book recommendations to debate
Got da message.
Trouble is being a newcomer I can't work out which forum to post which question into and I think my questions would be too simplistic anyway!

Hi Crashfrog, what I am trying to ask with those 3 questions are:
1. where did I come from?
by that I ask, am I product of evolution? am I a product of Intelligent Design? am I a product of both? OR MORE?
2. where am I?
If evolution is an ongoing process, there was a beginning, Q1.,there is a now Q2., and there has to be an end Q3.
Q2. relates to the NOW part.
If the beginning is 1 o'clock, and the end is midnight, what time is it now?
3. where am I going?
okay, I've been a fish, a reptile, an ape, what's next?
Perhaps I'm just confused?

Yikes! In my defence I can only say that CREATION VERSUS EVOLUTION is such a large subject that I find a specific place to start discussing it and understanding it almost impossible!
I would like to think at 50 years old, a teacher (okay not a science teacher!) and resonably intelligent I have a basic grasp of what both CREATION and EVOLUTION imply.
Hey, lesson learnt though. I WILL try and think of a specific scientific question and post it. And hopefully you guys will attempt to answer it.

I have actually posted a similar question to those you have mentioned, so hopefully it will pop up somewhere on the forum.
Thanks for switching my light bulb on guys. Hopefully I'll prove a worthy student.
