Does it trouble you not at all that lunar and solar eclipses must be separated by a minimum of two weeks, that none of the solar eclipses around 30 CE were anywhere near Palestine, or that solar eclipses cannot result in "On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness?"
I thought not. added by edit: are you aware, too, that lunar eclipses aren't visible in the daytime? (Well, in the arctic and antarctic, I guess - but not from Jerusalem.) Edited by Coragyps, : No reason given. Edited by Coragyps, : No reason given.

is that there was a strange 'darkness' that day. Tell me more about this strange darkness, Trollysis4. Did the Sun play Extreme Cepheid For A Day? And how does a vantage point on the freakin' MOON where one could see the glowing ring around the earth outshining all of Aires do anything at all for your mythology?

Cal, what sort of event caused this darkening of the sun in 33 AD? I don't regard "the will of God" as much of an answer. You're welcome to use that as a part of your answer, but please, oh please, gimme a plausible physical mechanism if you have one.

....you will find on the second notation 0033 Apr 03 as it concerns the crucifixion of Christ. And you'll also find there that this eclipse was essentially unobservable from the Levant, what with being either at the point of umbral exit (U4) or penumbral at the time of moonrise there - which is within minutes of sunset during a lunar eclipse. In my experience, a penumbral eclipse is pretty non-obvious even in a dark sky, let alone at twilight. That, and you have no extrabiblical evidence that this Jesus was crucified at all, let alone in 33 CE. And why is that that Mark and John disagree about the day, when they both are allegedly Inspired?

The multiple testimony of witnesses as found in the scriptures testifies of it. You have addresses or last names for any of 'em? Your eclipse was unobservable from Jerusalem! You aren't going to respond to that, are you? and it occurred as he said it would as verified by Peter who was an eyewitness (Acts 2:20) Really! Acts 2:20 is written, after the Day of Pentecost and so post-resurrection, in the future tense, Cal:"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:" And according to your NASA source, the lunar eclipse, which was at best marginally observable from the Mideast, didn't occur until sunset, when the crucifiction was a done deal. Pretty shaky "prophecy" if you ask me. And I'll warrant that you disbelieve the Invisible Pink Unicorn (PBUHHH!). You'll be the sorry one, when you're eating boiled turnips with no salt or butter while we, The Righteous, are eating ham-and-pineapple pizza with Great Rejoicing!! This is October 15, 2009 A.D. What does A.D. stand for? Nothing? And it's Thursday. Whose day does that mean? Nobody's?

When Peter later brought this fact to the attention of the unbelieving Jews in public they did not argue with him. To which one may reply, "well, DUH!"He was talking in the freakin' future tense, goober! What would they have argued about? Your 'invisible pink unicorn' doesn't answer personal prayer. You know this how, exactly? You sound like one o' them scoffers to me..... The truth is that you just don't care. Why the fuck should I care about your mythology over anyone else's? I spent 40+ years in the trap of Christianity/theism, and I'm glad to be free of it. You're a sorry reprobate. They quit making reprobates in 1928. He can't be one. How did the sky get dark all over the Roman world, Cal? "Supernaturally" isn't an answer. Why is an essentially unobservable partial lunar eclipse four hours after the event it was "prophesied" to accompany supposed to be impressive? What does the Book of Acts describing some future event have to do with the eclipse(s) you're rattling about here?
I wouldn't wish hell fire on my worst enemy. Nor I unsalted, unbuttered boiled turnips on mine. But you may be risking just that..... Edited by Coragyps, : addition

searched for lunar eclipses which would have been visible from Jerusalem As I pointed out upthread, the 33 AD eclipse was at best marginally observable from Jerusalem. The link to Espenak's page at NASA that Calypsis gave in the OP shows this - "fourth contact," which is the moment of the moon leaving the umbral shadow, was right after moonrise as seen from Israel. At best there would have been a nick out of the north edge of the moon, and in bright twilight at that. Noticeable, if you were really looking, but not very exciting.
