Oscar Wilde Quotes
There are many relevant to the EvC debate. Here are a few:
Oscar Wilde writes:
When I think of all the harm the Bible has done, I despair of ever writing anything to equal it
The worst vice of a fanatic is his sincerity.
"I sometimes think that God, in creating men, somewhat overestimated his ability".

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
Lewis Carroll

Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. -- Thomas Jefferson
We see monsters where science shows us windmills. -- Phat
It has always struck me as odd that fundies devote so much time and effort into trying to find a naturalistic explanation for their mythical flood, while looking for magical explanations for things that actually happened. -- Dr. Adequate
...creationists have a great way to detect fraud and it doesn't take 8 or 40 years or even a scientific degree to spot the fraud--'if it disagrees with the bible then it is wrong'.... -- archaeologist

Ah, but then the bowsprit got mixed with the rudder sometimes...

An Iranian student to me (ca. 1984) as I investigated the student's report of an intruder in his apartment.
It was the plumber.

I didn't realize there was statute of limitations on being silly.
there aint. your trolling style just seems odd to me.
Would it be OK for me to comment on it if it had been written yesterday?
It would have been more in context and been more witty, rather than taking a 13th century quote and applying modern ideas to it.

your trolling style just seems odd to me.
And my style of writing Russian prose is equally puzzling. All those Roman characters, non-Slavonic roots, Anglo-Saxon grammatical inflections ... why would anyone write Russian like that?
It would have been more in context and been more witty, rather than taking a 13th century quote and applying modern ideas to it.
I guess the context would be that a modern person, living in the twenty-first century, quoted it with apparent approval this Tuesday as though it applied to modern times.
If it was just meant to be a quaint reminder of how people used to think in bygone days, then it may well fulfill that function.

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

Minds are like parachutes. Just because you've lost yours doesn't mean you can use mine.
