Author | Topic: God and the size of the universe. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I'm trying to get thoughts on God's possible reasoning for the size of the universe. I know no one could know God's thoughts (either because there is no God or because he IS God), and while that answer may be enough for some its isn't enough for me. Whats the point of a boundless universe where less then .000000000000000ect% is being used for anything meaningful?

LOL
You still seem to be working from the position of "What's in it for YOU?" Should the universe exist just for YOU?Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Unless they believe there is some other reason for there being so much more to the universe, why have so much stuff that is not needed for the existence of life on Earth outside of Earth and the Sun? Hi Nlerd. Welcome to EvC. In order for you to get a handle on what the Bible teaches, regarding inhabitant of the Universe, the best way is to read up on the Bible. Take the Book of Revelation, for example, the last book of the New Testament; There are many different creatures such as legions of angels of different status, etc. My understanding of the Universe is that it is infinite in size and time having boundless space. God is so great and beyond our understanding that he, via his multi-present Holy Spirit is aware of all that's happening in every part of the Universe. We cannot imagine all that's likely out there. We will never know in this life. Some place in the book of Psalms, King David described Jehovah, the Biblical god by saying that his greatness is "unsearchable." Nothing at all that he purposes to do is too difficult for him. Over the decades, as I've lived the Christian life and prayed to him for guidance and help, he has shown himself to be strong (all and more than I could imagine) on the behalf of me and my family. There are, according to the Bible beings capable of appearing and disappearing in the presence of mankind. There are demonic beings capable of invading the bodies of humans. There is a vast array of creatures in the Universe, according to the Bible. The first chapter of the book of Job is another example for you to consider. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. Because whats the point of creating everything and then putting a self-conscious sentient being in the middle of all that everything if you aren't going it for that being.
I mean really if God went through all that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" and then goes on to have a book written where the main character is the human race one would think that the main character in the universe according to someone who believes the bible would be man.

Well, since humans wrote the Bible stories is it surprising that they made humans the central character?
For example the quote you posted is from the myth told in Genesis 1 which is actually a much younger fable than the earlier tales found in Genesis 2&3. It was also written by folk that had an entirely different picture and image of God then the folk that wrote the older stories.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Honestly, I read most of it when I was younger and all I got out of it was confused. And I'm not saying that to belittle the Bible or anything, I love reading but the Bible is a mess of weird wording and phrases that mean nothing to me.

I'd always thought of angels as being outside the universe like God. Same goes for demons unless either manifests on Earth.

People have lots of silly ideas. I can't help that. But since there is not even such a thing as "The Bible", some universally accepted list of what books should be in "The Bible", it's pretty hard to think it is literally "The Word of God".
You'd think that God would at least leave a list of what should be included.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

A Man Said to the Universe
by Stephen Crane A man said to the universe:"Sir I exist!" "However," replied the universe, "The fact has not created in me A sense of obligation." Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Same goes for demons unless either manifests on Earth. The Universe, by definition, has no outside of, all space/area being included in the term, whether you believe, as I do, space being unbounded or whether you believe the mainstream conventional science notion that the Universe is finite. Uni... verse=one verse, nothing else existing, unless you have the strange notion of multi-verses existing; imo, having no substantiation and making no sense. In order to stay on topic, I won't delve further into that science topic, having given my 2 cents worth, relative to your statement.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. If I offended you I wasn't trying to, I really never thought of angels or God as existing on the same "plane" as "normal" existence. The image I've always had of God has been something beyond the physical. And I've always pictured angels as being with God when not poking around in our business.

A lot of folks have this strange notion that Jehovah and all of his creatures of various levels of intelligence are out of the Universe. Imo, it's arrogant of itty bitty humans, existing on this speck in our Solar System called Planet Earth, which is a tiny speck in our Milky Way Galaxy, being, itself a tiny speck amongst all of the existing billions of galaxies, etc, to think that theirs is the highest level of existence existing in this vast wonderful Universe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW.
