Scientists don't reject creationism because those who promote it are motivated by religious beliefs. They reject it because the scientific evidence points to evolution, and only to evolution. The scientific evidence provides no support whatsoever for creationism.
Thus, if there were one "researcher" in the 70s who was not motivated by religion, that's not going to make any difference to any scientist. If the "researcher" produced evidence that supported creationism, that would make a difference.
