I am interested to see what arguments the participant will bring up after the first round of exchanges. Were this not a great debate, I agree that the resulting dog-pile would end the discussion in a hurry. But perhaps if Coyote ties one hand behind his back as AdminMoose would prefer, we'll see something new. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Some historical events can come and go and not leave a trace of evidence. But the premise of the Great Debate is that the Ice Age is a flood effect. If so then the flood did leave traces. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison. But that is using your conclusion as your evidence. Actually it is not my conclusion at all. It is the point that Mellark is attempting to make. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. If you say about 4.2 billion years ago, there is plenty of evidence for a world covered in water and the appearance of mountains being covered. But what we should require is a flood during the time period when there were people around. A flood 3-4 billion years ago would not qualify. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison. Re: 5
PaulK writes: More like 5 in the Flood story (you count Noah and his wife, but not the sons). ICANT writes: What happened to the three women that was no kin and therefore did not have the DNA of the 5 you mentioned? They could have all 3 had completely different DNA. Paul counted them already. From Gen 7:13
quote: In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
If you exclude Noah's sons for the reason that they add no genes not possessed by their parents, the count is 5. Nonetheless I see your miscount has received a cheer. Some patience.
He is making some errors, but perhaps some of his questions have a point. Coyote seems inclined to be patient with him. I think we should be too. Engaging the peanut gallery is a mistake. You cannot really Gish Gallop effectively in a written debate on a limited subject because you are going to get called on it. I disagree with Percy on one thing. There used to be a huge "August" effect back in the '90s, when freshmen got to college found the internet and usenet for the first time, but nowadays August seems to be year round. I don't see how a dogpile could be worse. Confusion is a creationist's best friend. Lol... Creationist always complain about dogpiles, so I assumed that a dogpile is worse than having a single person blow you up. Still, in past discussions I haven't seen anyone give a real good evidence based description of the cause(s) for ice ages. Perhaps that would leave an opening for an accomplished debater to give Coyote some difficulty. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Re: refuting propositions
I didn't say I thought Coyote should lose. But in this debate, refuting the flood using some of the most common approaches isn't really the way I would expect the discussion would go. I would expect the thread to discuss the link between an ice age and a flood of whatever type the OP defends. Of course, it is possible that we've seen the last of the OP.
