Dear Jagz,
I think the fundamental problem with the
All processes (left to themselves) go toward a greater state of disorder, disorganization, disarrangement and less complexity.
quote is the bit about "left to themselves". None of the proceses of life or living organisms on this planet are left to themselves, they all interact with their environment.
In thermodynamic terms there are no living systems on Earth which are closed system they all have energy input from outside mostly from the sun, directly or indirectly.

I don't know, my VCR seems to be f**ked whenever there's something I really want to record on.

Arguably every organism has a unique DNA sequence, even within clonal populations of bacteria you are likely to find some polymorphism somewhere.
To suggest that a genome is the complete DNA sequence of a species is misleading. The Genome is the complete DNA sequence of one organism what most genome projects with the pooled donor approach are trying to do is establish a representative reference genome for the species. A good example of this difference would be the Celera Genome which is in the most part derived from Craig Venter's DNA and the HGP genome which was from a large pool of anonymous donors.
