We all want proof NOW, when the truth is we aren't sufficiently evolved to handle the truth but once we are, we will be God for to know the mind of God is to be God Couldn't God "sufficiently evolve" you a little quicker? How hard can that be? Or stop time altogether, while He puts together the necessary widgets and doohickeys to turn you into God? You're also implicitly assuming that God has the power to create an equal, which may or may not be true (depending on which version of God you believe in). PE

Actually Primordial Egg, it's short term memory. I can read a paragragh, and immediately forget the details just read. Your right, he called my name. But this time - while he is talking about his conquests in Egypt , I'd ask (in my mind) "What's my name?". If he can read my mind I'd be impressed, but then I'd have to ask him his real name, and whatever he wanted with me would have to comply with the scripture and Christ. If he said "go hump a cow" - I would say "it is confusion". But ofcourse, if he could read my mind then I would probably vere towards thinking it was him. But to make sure, I would ask him what specific prayers he had recieved from me. But then, if he could read my mind, he could scan my brain and find out the prayers. So we have a predicament.
I guess if God did appear to you, then like Christ said "even if one rose from the dead he would not believe", well - this is a similar thing. I guess if God couldn't persuade you with parlour tricks, then he cannot persuade you at all. I guess this again might come down to faith. P.S. Apparently, satan can appear with angels of light, but if he goes against the scripture he is not who he says he is, hence "test the spirits". I probably would only require a minor adjustment.

To have him convince me....hmmm. It would probably involve Winona Ryder and Ins Sastre ...and if I still wasn't convinced, maybe I'd die with a big smile on my face.

Hmmm, so if I've got you correctly, you'd ask the voice something like:
"Tell me what I'm thinking and if you can do that, tell me all the prayers you've received from me" (only all in your head). If the voice could do this, thats no doubt mightily impressive, but it still could be the devil. To satisfy yourself that the voice wasn't the devil you would test the spirits, to test that the voice did not go against scripture. Out of interest, what would you actually say (or think, in your case) here, to test for the devil? Couldn't the devil sometimes go with scripture, just to deceive (especially as he knows what you're thinking)? Incidentally, what's interesting here from my perspective is that no matter how pants-wettingly powerful this voice was, you still would not abandon your existing beliefs. Indeed it would have to be the voice who would have to conform to your opinion of him. This is actually quite similar to me in a weird kind of way - I can't imagine any single demonstration of power which didn't mess with my free-will which could convince me that I was in the presence of God and not some impish Cosmic rapscallion. Not sure if that emans I'm being dogmatic about things or not. I mean, just because the voice could read your mind doesn't mean he created the Universe. Just my 2p. PE PS Is cow humping specifically prohibited? "Probably the toughest time in anyone's life is when you have to murder a loved one because they're the devil." - Emo Philips

As a Christian, I would say nothing, but listen prayerfully with the scriptures in mind. Depending on the guidance and leading of the Holy Spirit in me and whether any scriptures were violated, I might ask the voice some key questions concerning Jesus Christ, like is he the son of God come in human flesh and did he raise bodily from the grave. The NT says any spirit that denies who Jesus is is of antichrist. If the answer is scriptural I would then likely worshipfully fall on my knees and listen for what God has come in such a manner for.
If in my mind I would determine that scripture was being violated and I decide that this is an evil spirit, I would then rebuke the spirit in the name of Jesus. I would not necessarily ask for any miracle, for Satan's demons are powerful miracle workers also, and pose as "angels of light."

Hi Buz,
Let's not forget - the whole voice thing could be a prank, or a David Blaine-esque illusion perpetrated by people who were well versed in scripture. How would you satisfy yourself that it wasn't pranksters? Would you ask for a miracle (like MtW did) first and then filter on the basis on scriptural concordance? Same question I asked MtW, could the devil not pretend to follow scripture, in order to decieve you? Lol, I see your post is similar brother Buz, I'm glad we see this in a similar fashion. Ofcourse, in relation to PE's new question, I am not sure satan would concur with the scripture. But either way - if it is satan, he is eventually going to have to go against scripture, otherwise - why would he want to deal with you to achieve scriptural or good purposes? - satan would eventually have to reveal his purpose, and I am not even sure God would allow such an event to continue, if it was that important to satan to trick you then if you have Christ in you I am pretty sure the Holy Spirit would lead you away from such things - as you rightfully said Buz.

I would ask God to stop the sun in the sky for a period of 24 hours (without adverse sloshing or inertial problems). This way, God is affecting something outside of human influence, and this feat could be verified by the entire world, not just myself.
Second choice would definitely involve Allysa Milano, but I'll keep this one close to the vest for content reasons.

The arch-skeptic in me is wondering why you would rather attribute the sun stopping in the sky to God rather than to mysterious aliens who were just pretending to be God. Or to an unsuspected well-measured dose of mescaline extract.
Isn't Alyssa Milano used as proof that there is a God? PE "Probably the toughest time in anyone's life is when you have to murder a loved one because they're the devil." - Emo Philips

I'd like to say how disappointed I am in Coragyps and Loudmouth for implying that sex with some Alyssa or Winona would be their test of the reality of transcendent experience. Some people can't discuss their faith without resorting to childish, inappropriate comments, and their views should not be considered the norm among the intelligent, sensitive people here at EvC. Though five minutes with Tera Patrick would make a believer out of me.

I think I'd ask Him/him/it to transport me to Heaven right away. Satan couldn't do that, right?

quote: Correct me if I am wrong, but to paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke "Advanced technology would appear to be magic to an undeveloped civilization." So, yes, you could never rule out an extra-terrestrial, but yet natural being that is able to do things we would attribute to a diety. However, the energy required to stop the earth, without damaging anything and without inertial forces flinging everything off the earth, is so astronomically high that I would classify it as being unexplainable in our universe. And then the same amount of energy would have to expended in respinning the planet, and again without any sensation of inertial forces. Also, if this was reported by every newspaper around the country, and people in every country experienced a 24 hour period of complete darkness/daylight, I would know that either I am deluded to the point I am making up 5 billion other people, or that everyone was deluded to the same extent as I was. Some might snap back that the sun stood still for Joshua. My only problem is that no other civilization reported an extended period of daylight or night time. Again, corroboration is needed.
quote: I wish. However, hallucinations due to drugs are usually not limited to one aberration, in this case the sun standing still in the sky (ie the earth stops rotating). I would expect other strange things to be happening that no one else was witnessing. Just for a little anecdote, a friend of mine got stuck in reverse after ingesting the aforementioned controlled substance. I don't mean in his car, but rather running backwards uncontrollably. He had to be tackled, which was no easy task since he's such a fast bastard. This is hardly the behavior that gives credence to a proclamation that the sun is standing still in the sky. quote: ...so you want proof now, huh ??? yes, God could evolve us a little quicker but good things take time and besides time is relative. To God 13 billion years is a blink... ...God wants us to be his equal as we were "made in his image" but what he actually wants is for us to be made in his reality, however we have to choose to be Remember how bored he was with us when we were perfect....
