Regardless of the link between mad cow disease and CJD,
the idea that human bones were fed to animals designed for human consumption is what I find disturbing (of course making vegetarian animals eat cattle feed with animal products of any kind strikes me a just wrong).
Yes there is skepticism -- it wouldn't be science if there weren't -- the hypothesis is possible, and the genetic evidence is rather compelling (to a point: it could just be the prions have that effect on humans whether they come from scrappie or mad cow disease or CJD) it just needs to be tested.
