For me, my feeling of self has led me to believe in God. I think therefore I am. I attribute my feeling of self to my spirit, which was created by God. I see that others in here, who may or may not believe in God, also have a feeling of self. There even seems to be some sort of separation of science and this feeling of self, in that people have responded that science cannot explain all things, like right and wrong, and purpose in life. Subjective things. My question is, what do you attribute your feeling of self to? What gives us the freedom of thought, or free will that say maybe a tree doesn't have?

Did you see this as a social and religious or science topic? TTFN, AW

I think since it is a totally subjective question, then it would be a social topic. Most of the responses will be subjective, unless someone has a scientific explanation for it. It is not specifically religious, since I am really looking for atheist, and agnoistic responses, but a religious response is welcome also. So I think coffee house is fine. The recent chain of topics has led me to these questions.

Keep in mind, rat, that there is not a small amount of scientific study of the "sense of self".

I would imagine not. But the topic is not exclusive to the scientific end of it. I only wish to learn from reading the responses.

RiVeRraTs own thread
I think we need to just have a riverrat Q&A thread permanently in the Coffee House. As for this question, can you not just tackit onto your other thread as another question? After all, it IS your thread!

Re: RiVeRraTs own thread
riVeRaT Q&A, lol. I would have tacked it on, but I don't like to go off topic. Plus I don't feel like it will get the right exposure. All this recent barraige of questions is leading to something.

Re: RiVeRraTs own thread
You can start Coffee House topics yourself. I'm not convinced this is such a topic. I'm leaning toward "Faith and Belief". Let's give AdminPhat a little time to comment again. Then I will consider promoting it (unless already promoted by another admin).

Re: RiVeRraTs own thread
I put you in the CoffeeHouse, Rat. Knock yourself out! I agree with NWR on the Faith/Belief alternative, but I dont think it matters much. This Thread is now closed.
