It's interesting that you "believe" something with very little evidence and then demand "proof" before you'll accept that it's a hoax.

A better policy would be "false until proven true". Accept nothing until you see good evidence. And always be prepared to reject it again if new evidence appears.

That's just the point though. The "simple assertion that it is a hoax" ought to be enough for somebody to look for more evidence.
