A fact is something that is so strongly supported by evidence that to disbelieve it is perverse.
Christianity is as much a fact as Peter Pan. Brian.

So sin is in the Y-chromosome. Now that's a start. Maybe somebody can find which actual genes are involved By golly, I think you've given the ID'ers some actual science to sink their teeth into! Let's hear it IDer's and creationists, which genes carry original sin on the Y-chromosome, AND if that is the case then women are free of original sin, right? lfen

We have struck lucky because before he died Ron Wyatt actually had some of Jesus' blood tested in a lab, and guess what?
Normal human blood has a total of 46 chromosomes. When a child is conceived 23 chromosomes come from the mother (all of these are "X" chromosomes), and 23 come from the father. If a child is to be a male child a "Y" chromosome is provided by the father and that chromosome designates the child will be a male. Christ's blood has only 24 chromosomes! There are 23 from his earthly human mother and only one "Y" chromosome from His heavenly Father! No other human blood like this has ever existed on the earth! The scientific term for this is "ploidy" or "haploidy". There have been known examples of females born with only half the normal chromosome count - 23 - but never a male child, because the father has to provide that distinctive "Y" chromosome! Praise the Lord! God will scientifically prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Jesus was no mere "good teacher" or "just a good man". Jesus Christ was the divine Son of God! People really do believe this stuff you know! Brian.

I'm afraid they do. Thanks for an interesting reference. People really do believe this stuff you know! I sometimes tune into a fundy radio station while driving home from work. What really stands out about their programming, is the high proportion of advertising that is selling snake oil (quack medical cures). I get the impression that the advertising industry is taking listeners to this station to be a self-selected group of highly gullible people.

Another interesting fact about this type of gimmick and the gullible is that it *seems* to be a predominantly American phenomenon. I do acknowledge that there are cranks and gullible people all over the world, but as far as the 'perfect Bible', YEC, inerrant Bible stances go, it really seems to be an American thing. There does appear to be a great many Americans who have signed up to some sort of anti-intellectualism.
I am really tempted (when I have the time) to do some research comparing the US Christian and UK Christian approaches to the Bible, I think it would make an interesting read. Brian.

I remember a mate telling me of a visit he paid to an American 'evangelical church'. It was the size of a football ground (as opposed to churches here which are the size of a snooker table. When the time came to offer up 'ill-gotten-filthy-lucre-to- THEYYY LOOOOORID' folk who were prepared to give $100 or more were asked to form a queue, behind them the folk who were prepared to give >$50 <$100 then stood. Behind them the folk who would give <$50 got to go. The widows mite indeed... Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater I say.... Now you're not going to tell me that your another one of those "5 senses-und-objektivity-und-empiricism-is-ze-only-vay-to-know-anytzing" evangelicals are you? Cos if you is, I'd appreciate it if you could demonstrate that as a fact (objectively and empirically of course). Otherwise I'll take it as philosophical rethoric (If ever I heard a bootstrap argument this will be one ) Romans 10:9-10: " if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved....."

Great story. That reminds me that the real american God is the almighty dollar. That's why "In God we trust" is stamped on our coinage. And what is the period from Dec 25 through Jan 1, but an orgy of celebration in worship of the dollar.

Precisely. So, you can demonstrate that Christs resurrection and His alleged divinity are facts?
Now you're not going to tell me that your another one of those "5 senses-und-objektivity-und-empiricism-is-ze-only-vay-to-know-anytzing" evangelicals are you? Well, not evangelical about it, but it is the best system we have and has served us well for a few millenia. It can be tested and repeated objectively, so it is well ahead of the supernatural nonsense.

Buy yourself a dictionary and look up the word 'fact', which is what my post was about. Christians are the ones who claim that everything in Christianity is a fact, but by definiton, very little in Christianity is a fact.It takes the same degree of delusion to believe in Peter Pan as it does to believe in Jesus the Christ. Brian.

I have my beliefs, but I also acknowledge they are unprovable. Reliegion is belief not fact. Thanks, nothing more can be said.

He was God who set aside the powers that God has to become man. As a man he wasn't born with infection (a sinful nature). But he was like Adam in that he did have choice. He didn't have to obey God If he didn't sin then he was not truely human. Being god and obeying god at the same time?

OK..OK...this topic is veering from the issue of whether a true Christian should be wealthy....not on whether Jesus Christ is any more valid than Peter Pan.
The only way that the Bible can be demonstrated to be false is by comparing human wisdom (or the lack) against other human wisdom. Belief is an impartation, not an education. Can you prove that it is not? This message has been edited by Phatboy, 09-05-2005 05:23 PM This message has been edited by Phatboy, 09-05-2005 05:24 PM

Brian writes: And it appears that as far as the reality of Jesus is concerned, Brian remains in never-never land! Christianity is as much a fact as Peter Pan. I can see doubting the fallible human institution known as the church. There are exceptions within the church, however. God works through imperfect vessels....not empirical skeptics! The Bible speaks of few true believers and many skeptics and scoffers. Just about right on target, I would say.
