Re: whats changed?
There is no doubt in my mind that the weather is changing, but I also doubt that our infrastructure and how Utilities are managed today will be able to stand up to the challenge.
Its not a problem of infrastructure per se, more of a problem where will we grow our food now when the weather where our farmlands are has changed so drastically.

I'm calculating the savings in electricity and oil, searching for a silver lining.
My guess is that you have an oil furnace why could you not run that?, with a converter a simple car battery should run the pump on the furnace for days they dont consume much power at all.

It should work at least for the pump that pushes watter into the radiators not sure how the oil igniting system works mine runs on wood. But the watter pump consumes very little power when i had to replace mine i was like wtf is this toy dooing on this massive furnace.

Any ideas for those of us with forced hot air? Oh, wait, I have a generator!
Umm so you people experience blackouts often at the most i get a few hrs per years when they are doing maintainence work or something stops the supply, but never for longer then an hr so far.
But I can't have DirecTV, no line of sight to the satellite.
What about internet via the mobile phone or are the towers down too when the power goes out?
Its a grate solution for people that have bad weiring to their homes and cant get a decent connection i think the connection is somewhere around 10/2 on the 20 EUr per month packages (in my country), depends on signal strainght though.

But 4G is 10x faster (around 10 mbs) and should be available nationwide by the end of 2014, and possibly in our area by as soon as the end of 2012. It would be the logical way to connect anything to the Internet if it weren't for cost - unlimited bandwidth, which I would need, costs way more than any of the other alternatives.
Dang i just cheked out the offers on these mobile internet packages actually not bad the speed is from 21 Mb/s on some locations 42 Mb/s these are top speeds cause signal straight and some other factors effect the speed. 99,6% of Slovenia is covered for the 21 Mb speeds and some 40% for the 42 mb speeds
America seems to be lacking behind
Though the way they sell this is silly the large package for 18 EUR includes 15 GB of data you can dl, after that the speed droops to 64 kb/s lol. You can buy more GB,s to dl after that lol or just wait for the next month lol.
You can also get a pre payed version of this where you pay say 5 EUR and dl an x amount of data then have no connection unless you fill up the card again.
But you have no monthly fees for this you do have to buy the card thing y in this case though.

Yea well we have somewhere arround 96 mobile phones per 100 people though i think the actual numbers are higher cause i know of no one that does not have a mobile phone yes the old people the young people everyone has a mobile phone, and i know lots of people who have 2 or more mobile phones.
edit:
The data 96 phones per 100 people was from 2004 and already over the average of Europe with 90 phones per 100 people.
Edited by frako, : No reason given.

Take a tour of Europe, then come to the U.S.--ride our trains, drive our roads, shake with fear on our bridges and observe our crumbling cities.
Haha you reminded me of Serbia i went there 2 years ago (i think could be 3) for new years the train was at a 40 degree angle i was wtf wtf we are going to derail almost pissed my pants and we where only going at a walking pace.
Back on topic
it was so warm today and we have been experiencing strange climate for the past few years where the temperatures spike then drop then spike again drop of a cliff again, kinda pissing me off i never know if i should fire up the furnace in the morning or not.

Re: Not Bad Here
Well we do have our share of bad roads, mostly because we are a transit country and people use trucks to send all sorts of shit trough our country u got stuff from Austria and and Hungary and all the countries behind them coming trough to go to the pier or down to the Balkans, and you got shit from down there coming up to these countries.
a newly paved road lasts 5 years then goes to a horrible road in 10 years. And the problem is those fucks that pave the road like it like this so they got work to do it would be possible to avoid the repaving every road we got every 5-10 years by reinforcing the ground more and adding more asphalt 7 cm of it centimeters do not last long under truck wheels.
