In the Neal Stephenson book "The Diamond Age" he uses the same concept. BTW, it's an awesome read and one of my faves.
I just got done reading an article on Slate that may have a counter to your proposal. Computers. We are already seeing computers find solutions to problems that we just don't understand, but are still true.
Will computers eventually make scientific discoveries we can’t comprehend?
