Nicotine has always been a bitch for me, although I no longer smoke. I have managed to quit that, but then I got addicted to the gum! Then I managed to quit that too but had terrible anxiety for many months. It was debilitating. I think the nicotine changed my brain chemistry, and that is probably what has happened to you.
I never really vaped, but a lot of people say it helped them too. I would consider continuing to do that until you can completely eliminate traditional cigarettes. But you really should view it as a temporary solution. I would give the Chantix another go. I kind of wish I tried it. I think it would have made my experience a lot easier. But almost everyone I know who used it as prescribed (you CANNOT deviate from the plan on that;take exactly as directed), all say that they literally have absolutely no desire to smoke anymore. I think it fills in those brain receptors that think it needs nicotine so that even the mental dependency is gone.
If you don't already do so, I would also consider getting in to a rigorous workout plan. You'll get that dopamine rush and it will become a much healthier addiction for you. I think it really helps a lot. Continue to vape for awhile, but get serious about a long-lasting exit strategy, and begin a rigorous workout plan. That would be my suggestion. Good luck!
