Today's column by Paul Krugman:
American Democracy May Be Dying
Paul Krugman points to the Republican fuckery in Wisconsin as a harbinger of things to come. The state's gerrymandered Republican "majority" refused to postpone the primaries or to allow a more extensive vote-by -mail procedure - supported by the partisan US Supreme Court majority - because forcing voters to go to the polls in person would clearly impact Democratic leaning areas more.
He makes the comparisons with Hungary and warns that the Republicans are using the pandemic to cement in their one-party authoritarian rule.
So that’s why what just happened in Wisconsin scares me more than either disease or depression. For it shows that one of our two major parties simply doesn’t believe in democracy. Authoritarian rule may be just around the corner.
