Re: Enough Said
Anyone who accepts a Templeton Prize as far as I am concerned reneges on their claim to be a scientist.
For $1.4 million tax free, I'll renege on just about anything

Re: Enough Said
Yeah, but as we only earn eight shillings a day here, 700K is a lot of money to us peasants...
Eta (the previous cantankerous cosmologist on this site, prior to my arrival) thought I was John Barrow

This is (or was) especially true for those in fields like particle physics
Pah - mere pretenders to the levels of arrogance we could generate in mathematical physics.

'Real' pure mathematicians who tended to hang out in DPMMS and rarely venture into DAMTP weren't big on things like communication, so you could never tell. Then again, they weren't that big on personal hygiene either, so we didn't make much of an effort

He notes that sci-fi programs have physicists as advisors rather than biologists - and the biology in the shows is almost universally awful
Are you (or he) suggesting that the physics in these shows isn't awful
Would it really matter if they had biologists around? Quite clearly the producers do not listen to their physics advisors and/or their physics advisors seem to know squat.
The whole premise of Star Trek:Voyager is that you have a spacecraft 'stuck' on the far side of the Galaxy. It can travel at any % of c it desires without even engaging its warp drive, and can travel back in time through the great 'slingshot round the Sun' nonsense. How many series? End of the very first episode should have been - hi, we're back!
