A great and pointed post dispelling any misconceptions regarding stopping the Earth's rotation. An excerpt:
So basically you would be sitting in your fields tending your sheep when you suddenly find the ground beneath you grinding the flesh off your bones from the friction as you are now moving across it at 450 mph. The pain would be short lived as you quickly slam into a nearby hillside as it is turning into slag from the heat produced by inertial forces.

Let's pretend that a culture had a certain story that was always being told around the campfire. Through migration, this culture is split into two tribes that are on opposite sides of a mountain range. The two tribes only rarely talk to each other. Now, what is going to happen to that oral tradition?...
