cavediver vs Mr. Logic
Author: cavediver
Forum: Big Bang and Cosmology
Thread: The Big Bang is NOT Scientific
Message: 25
Perhaps POTM wasn't intended for this sort of thing, but I have to give cavediver some praise for expressing what I (and others) frequently feel.
If Mr Logic has the gall to think that the universe should somehow bow down to his concept of "common sense" and plain English, then I'm afraid Mr Logic will only ever be a bystanding spectator.
While I do have a little sympathy for folks who feel the universe should behave according to "common sense", one should always be aware that data always trumps "common sense". I have less sympathy for people who will not accept clear, plain evidence because it violates their sense of morality or threatens their view of their role in the universe.
Remember folks: the universe is what it is regardless what you want it to be.

Ominovorus and the tired old murder victim analogy
Author: Omnivorous
Forum: Is It Science?
Thread: Creationists: Why is Evolution Bad Science?
Message:#178
The "compare the evidence for evolution to the evidence in a murder investigation" is an old analogy. But I like how Omnivorous phrased it this time. The first piece of evidence raises suspicions, the next confirms the suspicions, and then the addition of more evidence nails down the conclusion decisively.
