I suspect you'd find a tighter correlation with the increasingly obese American population overall and the ever-larger vehicles they chose to drive in the 1970 period forward.
I suspect that if you looked at
the time of day of earthquakes, you could correlate the East Coast rush hours with earth events, as the American Butt hits the SUV.
