What happens after death for an Atheist.
The same as you though you may tend to rail against the inevitable. Death is the end and your consciousness is history.
Nothing? Emptiness
LOL! Even less than that, since you reference emptiness and nothing from a conscious location while you are alive. It is exactly the same as before you were born,no address,no title.
what is the purpose of your lives?
Pretty much all the same things you find purposeful {maybe more maybe less} sans god.
Is it to spend one-sixth of your life on the toilet?
LOL!! Dude, I gotta ask. Do you spend one sixth of your time{four hours a day} on the toilet? If so man, you need a god.
Personality is a function of your existence which at death no longer remains.I have such a shitty personality that I suppose few will regret the passing. Oh well, screw them.
May I ask what you think atheists should feel about as regards death in your view?

They probably expect to be dead all over just like rover, but what really happens is their eternal soul will burn forever in hell.
Not me.Hell is for those fearful souls who cannot fathom that life holds no heaven or hell.Above us only sky my boy.Enjoy the view, carpe diem and all that.Nobody gets out alive.
By the way I believe the bible says even satan will only spend 1000 years in hell.Hell, under our judicial system he would walk off with time served before trial.LOL

Hell is in your head not a place to go.Along with heaven it is the result of the fears of men being manipulated for the purpose of other men's agendas. That we are mortal is a prospect we care not to deal with so we invent these myths to comfort and allay our fears and uncertainties, that we might better get through our day.
Of course it is a free country where you are allowed to worship and pray and engage in all the trappings of your particular myth but the day will arrive nonetheless. You may face it under the delusion that there is more or ,as in my case, face it for what it is; an end that does no harm.In either event it makes no diference how we choose to live as long as we harm no one in the process.

If I'm wrong, then there is no after life and I have lost nothing is this life
Other than wasting your time with worries that are not necessary, understandings that are not evidenced, trying to convince people of something that does not exist and instigating needless anxieties in others for failing to live up to standards that were never achievable nor required.
There is greater loss than you have made bet upon old man.

Depends on whether you find motionlessness boring I suppose since you cannot move without the passage of time.

Isn't that ignorance?
Pretty limited view of another demension. I really expected more from you. I know you dream about things like that.
Limited view of another dimension? We were discussing the nature of time RR. What dimension are you talking about in which events occur without time being present? I am ignorant? What did I ignore RR?
It think you are talking through your hat.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Re: Time
riVeRrat
No problem except time is taken as the forth dimension. There are three space dimensions and the fourth is time. The term spacetime refers to the union of these four in equations of special relativity. They are inseperable.

Re: Time
riVeRrat
Time and space are linked together to form spacetime. When we make a measurement within spacetime it is defined by four coordinates, three for each of the space dimensions and one for time. This measurement is termed an event.
Without time events cannot occur. We experience the passage of time in a very real sense by the meaurement of spacetime.Time allows the dimensions the ability to perform movement and space allows time a path by which to proceed.Without all four dimensions we cannot properly descibe occurences within our world.Space and time are inseperable aspects of the world.
If you wish to understand in greater detail the workings of spacetime you need to learn about special and general relativity and the mathematics descibibg these.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Re: Time
riVeRrat
Going into another demension where time does not exist, does not mean that events will stop happening.
First off, what other dimension where time is not present are you referring to?
