Ok, I don't. Let me rephrase that. What are your hopes?
I hope that I can help the human race not be buttholes. How about you?

The definition of the word speaks for itself. You have no hope, I seriously don't see the point of living as an atheist.
Athiests don't have any hope? What ever gave you that idea?
All the Athiests and Agnostics I know are motivated, successful, hard-working, highly moral and ethical people.
It seems to me that the people who are the most down on themselves and the human race in general are religious folks.
It's also true that the prisons are filled with believers, not Athiests.
quote:
What IS useful about atheism? What is the result of a life as an atheist? You live, you die, it's over. But there is more then that...
You live.
If one is an Athiest, one lives life as if there is no afterlife. If an Athiest does good, they are doing it with no eternal reward to motivate them, so I would say that the Athiest's motivation is rather more pure, wouldn't you?

How do you know I have no hope?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I don't. Let me rephrase that. What are your hopes?
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this world, the same as a life as a Christian.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I try to save souls.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right. As a living human being you have a chance to leave the world a better place than when you came in. But unlike you I'm not so selfish that I need the ulterior motive of an eternal spiritual orgy to motivate me to do the right thing for others.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, I like to "conserve" the earth too, but I'm not being selfish, I'm just respecting and adhearing to my creator, there's a parable in the Bible about an angel eliminating heaven and hell, then the question is asked, would you still follow what your creator tells you to do? It's not scare tactics for me. I am not in it for a reward.
Thanks though.

Sorry, this seems terribly arrogant to me. I know your intentions are good, but it is annoying.
How do you know you are right and everyone else is wrong? You all have the exact same thing to offer when answering this question; personal assertion.

So, what's the point to following all of those rules if you don't care if you go to Hell or not?

I'm respecting the one who created me, I never said I didn't care, of course I care, but like I said, I am doing what I am called to do on earth. What I do some of the time (I wish i could all the time :/) is do what I am called to do.

Just for my edification Messenjah, how many different religions are your familiar with? Why did you pick Christianity over another religion? Have you actually read (and understood) both the old and the new testement? Also have you stated that you are trying to do what you are "called to do". How has what you are called to do been comunicated to you? Mail, email, phone call, voices in your head, what?!!

Many. I picked christianity over others because God has called me to do so.

Some yes, some no. I find it impossible it understand it all. Yes I have, in the post you just responded to.

Prayer, life, fate. It all culminates together to create one big picture.

Hi Chris,
I find it very admirable that you have foudna faith and you seem a very well balanced and likable wee chap.
I know you are doing what you think is best and that you do it to the best of your ability.
I am not in the slightest bit interested in trying to place any doubts in your mind about God's existence or the reliability of the Bible, I know for a fact it wouldn't really matter what I presented you with, you will still beieve what you want to.
What I would like to say is that you have a fairly long time ahead of you and life is very seldom a choice of black or white. I would suggest that you open your mind up a little and try and be a bit more objective about what you study.
When you say you have a 'calling' and this was through prayer and other things, you may simply be seeing and/or hearing what you want to see and/or hear. I reckon what I am trying to say is for you to question things a bit more, support answers with evidence, and do not just discount people's arguments simply because you do not want their arguments to be true.
Finally, you may think that God's calling is too real, too powerful nt to be true, but you have to remember that many other people from many other faiths claim exactly the same thing. You cannot all be correct.
Cheers,
Brian.

How about I restate the fact that I am a Christian. I was trying to say that I really have no clue what domination of a Christian church I'll attend since I basically don't really like any of them. Maybe I just won't go to church at all, you don't have to go to church to be a Christian anyways.

The first statement... can you get me a statistic of how many people are not "religious"? Because it appears to me that almost the whole world could be considered this, except Atheists I suppose.
Really now... hmm are you postively sure about that last statement? I would like to see a little proof. Obviously they weren't living their lives like Christians if they were in prison. If we happen to go be statistics we hear, well, last year I heard that 50% of the world claim they are Christians, out of the 50%, how many of them do you think actually really believe? There is a difference between talking the talk and walking the walk... if you get what I mean.

From an online dictionary source:
Christian
1. Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
2. Relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus's teachings.
3. Manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus; Christlike.
4. Relating to or characteristic of Christianity or its adherents.
5. Showing a loving concern for others; humane.
It seems that most here think that they are "Christian" because of definition 1.
and just being humane doesn't count
or maybe it is just definition 5. that counts and I can be Christian without believing
It seems to me if it requires one to act or manifest the qualities then there are no Christians, since so few can manage it.
Isn't "believing" as the savior enought to qualify one as a Christian?
