I think you answered this on another thread and you said no. True?

Re: The Bible: It's a powerful organization of redemptive words
Brian! You behave. I DO agree with you wholeheartedly about the collection of manuscripts. I suppose that we could even start a new topic and call it The Canons: Spiritual or Political?
The Old Testament has nothing to do with Jesus
Assuming,of course, that Jesus is NOT our Messiah. If you are up for it, perhaps we could chat a bit? Meet me in chat.

Hey Philip. Such an argument!
Philip writes:
Are you (or I, or others) trying to overthrow faith in a Gospel of Christ as confirmed by the supposedly *awkward* collection of *those* books?
Brian challenges us to think rather than wander. He espouses skepticism of supernatural faith because it has not proven itself in his life. That being said, he is an excellent teacher.
Can you or I do better scriptures?
He does not believe that The Spirit literally exists. Thus, a better book can be written!(Human potential)
Would you or I (or anyone here) really like to see *God’s Word* destroyed, stampeded into the dirt, crucified, etc. with no resurrection power for our eternal salvation?
If there were no Bible, would we be eternally confused? If anything, science and education force us to rely on more than just the Bible as a book for our faith.

He IS a "Wiz" though. Invite Him over and He will turn all of your water into wine for you!

Ha.I can do him one better.
Any biological wannabegod can do THAT!
Seriously though, lets get back on topic.

What is the Bible anyway?
and then later,
it appears that it has been tampered with more than any other collection of books in the history of the world.
I have heard that the tampering boils down to what can or should be considered Canon? Spiritual impartation or political manipulation?

No, there are other parts of tampering. For example, things were added later, items were mistranslated to promote different theologies.
1) How would we know what was added if we did not know what was supposed to be there? In other words, who or what is the arbitrator?
2)Of course there are different theologies...we all have a relative interpretation of theology in general, yet there is some uniformity
within each labled theology.
My question is this: If a Canon can be considered to be "official", who decides and by whose authority do they decide?

We know that things have been tampered with because of 1) the style and vocabulary were different, 2) the message was different, and 3) when an older copies of the text were found, it was different.
Yes...that is why the councils rejected the Gnostic Gospels, Thomas, etc...because it had a different message...like Brian said that Jesus was cruel to someone, but it was one of those spurrious documents. Otherwise, re-examining the Canon would lead to an all inclusive spirituality quite unlike the Christian absoluteness...although I believe that the Church has misused its power many times...and continues to do so, I also think that the Canon and the message of Orthodocx christianity is quite set.
