Do you want to come across as an intelligent, science-minded grownup or not? No i want to come across as an old fashioned blacksmith. As long as the profanity is used as a stress release i see no problem whit it if it is used as an insult then you can get punched in the face. On a noter note why do these sware words act as a pain reliever. If you curse when you are in pain you fel less pain than if you do not.

Do you want to come across as an intelligent, science-minded grownup or not? To be quite frank, I couldn't care less how I come across. My arguments/statements/etc. will be either taken for what they are worth or they won't. If certain individuals can't see through one curse word, they probably won't make heads nor tails of the argument had it lacked said profanity. I personally find it extremely childish to call attention to profanity, but that is just my opinion.
I presume that there are occasions when you do "censor yourself". Of course there are. Not all of my posts on any forum are riddled with fuck and shit.
Or do you use the same language in a job interview? I don't discuss evolution and creationism during a job interview, either. I also don't conduct job interviews online. None of you are potential employers. I don't quite see the correlation between the internet and real life. hooah212002 is not my real name and I have yet to use a picture of myself as an avatar. On a noter note why do these sware words act as a pain reliever. If you curse when you are in pain you fel less pain than if you do not. One swaps the avoidance response for an aggression response. Either of the fight or flight behaviours is called for when felling pain. As we are taking some form of action we feel more in control and if we feel in control we can suffer more distress.

Perhaps you don't care, but you should perhaps be aware that in a situation where you are trying to be as persuasive as possible, you will almost certainly lose people by swearing and by being insulting. If you curse or crudely insult others, people are going to regard you as having squandered the moral high-ground and, rightly or wrongly, they're going to ignore you. they're going to assume that you're not very nice, so therefore what you're saying must be wrong. That may be fallacious, but what do you expect from creationists? I see your point and wholeheartedly concur. I am pretty sure that when I do have an argument of substance, I make myself clear without needing to resort to profanity.
I think that the best way is a tit-for-tat policy. If people are nice with others, I try to be nice with them. As do I. However, the comment that fueled this post was one where Buz was actually trying to justify slavery and said that it was a good thing. The rest of you may try and reason with that, but I am more apt to cut through the bullshit and call a spade a spade. "What can be asserted without proof, can be dismissed without proof."-Hitch.

lyx2no writes: How can say this nicely? Buz, we put in much more effort to gauge your meanings then you put in to understanding ours. Oh, really? Like gauging meanings of prophecy fulfillments when in fact, evidence is cited? Case in point, Israel's ultra-phenominal latter day restoration after 1900 years of dispersion globally as Jesus and the prophets of the OT predicted? How difficult is it to gauge the meaning of that sort of Buz speak? It appears that members secularistic mindests have no desire in gauging meanings of things even remotely supportive to the Biblical record.
lyx2no writes: Rarely do you write a sentence that doesn't require some degree decryption. Example, I'm sure there would be a better way to reference "a message above the one I've cited" (sans comma). Might I suggest "message 88,", perhaps? Point well taken, but Rarely? Really? Perhaps you're exaggerating a tad by the usage of the word term, "really." I assume you noticed that I did link the message 88 number in in the same OP message.

nwr writes: The spell checker built into firefox immediately flagged that "aire". Well, okay, it also flags "firefox", so we do need a little human judgment to decide what to do about the flagged words. For the record, my usage of the word was correct gramatically, according to the Online Dictionary.

Question: Is there a convenient way to have spell check flag messages in EvC message previews before submitting those messages? Chrome and Firefox have spell-check enabled by default. I presume Opera and Safari do as well. I just checked IE8 and noticed it does NOT seem to have spell-check enabled by default. Suffice to say, it depends on what browser you use. For the record, your use of the word "aire" was completely wrong. Here's the Wikipedia entry for that word. For the record, my usage of the word was correct gramatically, according to the Online Dictionary. Your usage was correct for "air", but what you wrote was "aire" not "air".
Buzsaw writes:
If you use firefox, then spell checking is automatic unless you have disabled it. Firefox underlines the questionable words. If you are using IE, then I don't happen to know what is available. I would guess that there is an extension or toolbar that you can install to give spell checking capability.

When I made that comment, I was mainly thinking of some other posters. Some people just post with too much razzle/dazzle (or should that be "RAZD/DAZD").Sometimes I resort to these tactics when counterparts in debate appear to be avoiding acknowledgement of pertinent points previously posted. (side note: The firefox spell checker doesn't like "acknowledgement" in my last quote of Buzsaw - it wants the "e" just before "ment" to be removed. It also doesn't like the "razzle" part of "razzle/dazzle", so maybe that is more of a British expression). Jesus was a liberal hippie

hooah211001 writes: Surely you mean hooah212002, which is my member name, not just Hooah. Hooah is an Army term (from which my user-id IS derived). Fine and dandy for you, Hooah, but everyone knows which member is intended by the abbreviated rendition. Since you don't debate yourself, perhaps you are oblivious to the fact that some of us find it a bit inconvenient to type out your long user name not readily remembered without scrolling down the page when quoting segments of your message.
hooah writes: Then perhaps you would like to start using spell-check if you are so concerned? You may also want to start writing in English like the rest of us and drop the Buz-speak.
I now have the spell check handy on my task bar and will begin implementing it before posting messages. Admittedly, I have been remiss in implementing this so as to conveniently apply it.
hooah writes: Buzsaw writes: Should members whose consistent communication MO consists of phrases like "Come the fuck on ........" and ".......fucking up the....."be critical of others, many of whom consider profanity to be improper and indecent in the public fora? Aww, did you get sand in your pussy, Buz? Do little bitty words offend you? Fuck off. No sand, Hooah, but perhaps disdain and disrespect towards members lower themselves to dumbing down their application of the English language frequently over the www and other public venues. In your phrase, "come the fuck on," have you ever thought about what the grammatical rendition of this is? Try, come the sexual intercourse on. It dumbs down the language and imo it lowers the esteem of decent speaking people for ones who frequently resort to it. Hooah, in my mind, and in, perhaps, the minds of a significant number of others who encounter you, you would not be a pleasant person to be around, impetuous and easily provoked, showing a lack of temperance, kindness and patience. Perhaps I'm mistaken. Surely your wife and children would be better judges than me on that count. Thanks, NWR. The page I accessed had definitions for both aire and air. I should have read more carefully which was which before posting. My bad.

That has got to be one of the funniest posts I have read in years.
Buz writes: Fine and dandy for you, Hooah, but everyone knows which member is intended by the abbreviated rendition. The CIA could not have said it better.
Buz writes: You've thereby become a little less ignorant of the English language yourself in that you now (if you've been reading) that the word "aire" was grammatically correct in my usage of it. toujours gai, toujours gai
Buz writes: The large majority of our EvC membership articulate their messages in a respectful manner indicative of having been brought up by parents and mentors who have taught them what is descent and proper in communicating to others, particularly in the public fora. A masterpiece Buz, a masterpiece. Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

You see, Buz, you never once actually made reference to my full user name. Normally, when one utilizes an acronym, they start with the full spelling followed by the acronym they will continue to use.
No sand, Hooah, but perhaps disdain and disrespect towards members lower themselves to dumbing down their application of the English language frequently over the www and other public venues. What? YOU are accusing ME of dumbing down the English language? Even in this post responding to me you fail at the language you profess to be a native speaker of.
In your phrase, "come the fuck on," have you ever thought about what the grammatical rendition of this is? Try, come the sexual intercourse on. Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that the word fuck is only a synonym for sex. I shall henceforth ask you for the proper meaning of profane words.
It dumbs down the language and imo it lowers the esteem of decent speaking people for ones who frequently resort to it. If that's not the epitome of irony, I don't know what is.
Funny thing about that, Buz. You will notice my posts lack insight into your personal life. Any "personal" attacks I make are on that of your avatar. Never do I make any comment about you the person. That's low even for a scumbag such as yourself.
The large majority of our EvC membership articulate their messages in a respectful manner indicative of having been brought up by parents and mentors who have taught them what is descent and proper in communicating to others, particularly in the public fora. As soon as you formulate a cogent argument that isn't full of Buz-isms and doesn't dance around the English language like a flittering butterfly, I will address your posts without the need to call you a racist moron or use "naughty words".
