Re: It's a form of child abuse
but have little or no say on what is taught in home schooling or the Christian Avoidance Movement schools.
As onifre has found out by actually looking, the amount of control states choose to exercise over home schools varies. Some states allow the school superintendent to verify attendance, quality of instruction and coverage of at least the basic subjects. In some instances non-compliance is a crime charged against the parents. For example in New York, the requirements are fairly strict, whereas in Bible belt states where the public school systems themselves are low end, the requirements tend to be slack.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass
