Re: Things Mike Huckabee Is Apparently Ambivalent About
One might have thought that even a conservative Christian might have been in favor of that. After all, if they kill themselves they can't be cured by prayer and find Jesus.
Can't see a fundy buying into that theory.
At this point, it is too late to stop the contribution to 'It gets better', so perhaps it is okay now to go ahead and spread hate, now that the good has been accomplished.

Re: Things Mike Huckabee Doesn't Know
Am I correct in thinking that "political correctness" is trying to be polite so people won't think you are an asshole?
It's supposed to refer to attempts to be polite that obscure the truth. But instead the term is used to deflect legitimate accusations of racism, homophobia, and xenophobia primarily by people on the right.

Yes, which results in the rather strange situation where Huckabee was right about something. Well, sorta. Huckabee thinks he could have done better.

Re: Things Ben Carson Doesn't Know
Ben Carson is not the originator of the believe that the pyramids were for storing grain. I suspect that a few people are actually encouraged to vote for Ben Carson because of his stated belief.
10 Bizarre Theories About The Pyramids That DON'T Involve Aliens
quote:
Medieval Europeans believed the pyramids were granaries described in the Old Testament. Egypt's pharaoh was disturbed by dreams in which seven lean cows devoured seven fat cows and seven withered ears of grain consumed seven healthy ones. Joseph interpreted the dreams to mean that there would be seven years of abundance in Egypt followed by seven years of famine. He advised pharaoh to begin storing surplus grain.

Re: Things Ben Carson Doesn't Know
The Bible says nothing about grain being stored in pyramids. His church, which I understand to be the Seventh Day Adventists, does not endorse the belief that grain was stored in the pyramids.
Ben Carson also claims that he cannot recall Barrack Obama being subjected to tough scrutiny.

Re: Ben Carson more red meat
More GOP red meat for the base.
I cant not put that mans speaking demeanor with the heinous crap he spews forth. Its like seeing a cat bark.
Our history suggests that we as a country cannot resist this type of red meat. We digest it now, and then when the crisis has passed, we acknowledge the evil of our ways and promise not to do it again. A promise which we keep at least with out words until the next time we have act. We are already hearing ugly talk about special ID cards for Muslims and favorable references to the Japanese internment camps created during WW II.
And it is not just the base that is susceptible to this stuff. 47 House democrats joined the republicans in creating a bill that pretty much rules out any Syrians or Iraqis from gaining any immigration or refugee status in this country.
One thing I do find noteworthy is that there is plenty of push back from at least some evangelicals who want no part of the hate filled side of the debate.

Re: Bundy Bozos and government sharks
Is there nothing at all on the Bundy side?
There can be a legitimate question about how land should be divided between US and the states. On that question alone Bundy draws some support, particularly from proponents for a small, powerless, central government. But even answering that question does not get Bundy the right to graze on state held property. Perhaps he thinks that if the property were locally owned he would have a chance to get the legislature to let him graze for free using your tax money to take care of the place.
Bundy's theory is that US ownership is illegitimate, and because the state of Nevada does not exert its ownership, Bundy should be able to step in and use public land for commercial profit for free. You might just as well claim the right visit an aircraft carrier and demand your free plane ride.
Bundy's purported legal claims that attempt to get around the fact that he is a trespassing, thief have all been adjudicated in court and Bundy lost.

Re: The next President will have a big debt.
Regarding the size of the disconnect resulting from Greenspan, when he took his Fed Chair position, the DOW JONES was hovering right around 2000. It peaked in 2000/2001 at around 11000. That is a 14% y-o-y return which is unheard of in stocks over their average.
I cannot make these numbers work. Did you err here?

Not unheard of. According to the link given above, the highest rate of return for a decade was during the 1950s.

Re: Trump Demands Do-Over
There is a case that Ted did some unsavory things that did amount to cheating. First his staff sent out flyers to delegates essentially telling them that they would be committing a criminal offense if they did not show up.
Secondly, his staff put out the word that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race, when in fact Carson was doing no such thing. The staff urged those Carson supporters to thrown their support to Cruz. Carson complained to the Republican committee but they said that they were not going to get involved.
