Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. —RC Sproul "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." —Mark Twain " ~"If that's not sufficient for you go soak your head."~Faith "as long as chance rules, God is an anachronism."~Arthur Koestler

There is no such thing as sexual orientation, homosexual acts are sin. If so, heterosexual acts outside of marriage are equally sinful. And do you honestly believe that anyone attracted to members of their own sex has a mental disorder or a demon?Chance as a real force is a myth. Tangle writes: I can see both sides of this discussion. (If there are only two sides, that is.. ) There is doubtlessly a difference that one feels belonging to a minority group. Intolerance becomes more of an issue based on defending ones identity. I personally feel more comfortable identifying with a majority group rather than a minority group. I choose to keep any issues that would place me in a minority group private. Others are more comfortable making their issues and challenges in life public...and thus are intolerant of mainstream belief and opinion. I am more apt to avoid rocking the boat...since conflict makes me neurotic.
My interest in these arguments isn't in their rights and wrongs as individual cases but that we are becoming very intolerant of diversity and whether this intollerance is a good or bad thing. Tangle writes: Perhaps you feel uncomfortable bearing the responsibility to side with other people's fight. They may look at it as you having to be either for the fight or against the fight...opting out is not an option. ...I don't feel comfortable in a world where many minority groups seem to be in either attack or defense mode over seemingly minor issues. It feels like our minorities are on permanent edge.Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Allow me to bring up another issue. Equal access for handicapped people. I can see the fairness of it, but I can also see the economic cost to small businesses. For many of them, the expense outweighs the benefit that the remodeling would allow through the extra customers. How should a business pay for such an accommodation if they are a small store who can't afford to remodel the bathroom for 2% of the population?
I don't get Faiths argument, though. I am a checker at a grocery store. If I let my personal beliefs influence the service I provide to my customers, I would be discriminating based on principal. As a ridiculous example, don't sell to thieves because they don't deserve service due to their propensity at stealing from our establishment. Perhaps Faith herself feels she belongs to a minority group---Biblical Christians---and feels her rights are also being violated.Chance as a real force is a myth. As A Christian, I would argue that we all sin, thus there is hypocrisy involved in discriminating against certain sinners and not others.
We can't simply become daily judges on who gets blessed and who gets cursed. that is Gods job.Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. Faith writes: Good point. Let us ask ourselves if we can even imagine Jesus working at a job selling things. Shouldn't the topic be confined to what IS stocked but available under some circumstances and not others? Remember this scripture? Matt 22:18-21 writes:
18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" 21 "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." Phil 1:15-18 writes:
15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. When I am at work, is it better to only serve some of my customers---as if I myself am responsible for legislating morality? Or...is it better to treat everyone the same and in so doing become a servant---setting an example of humility. Just a thought.Chance as a real force is a myth. Of course, based on that logic, Christians should boycott Disney movies, Liquor stores, and marijuana dispensaries...but I hardly see that happening.

Let me jump in with my 2 cents. To begin, I have not thoroughly read these cases...so I am uninformed as to motivation...
Were their lawsuits "misplaced"? Were they "petty and unnecessarily aggressive"? The lawsuits were necessary, but in my opinion overly aggressive. Wiping out someone's livelihood and putting their family on the street is a lot more serious than being butthurt because you were unable to have the wedding of your dreams. It appears that the battle is necessary to secure equal rights, however. Were I the offended party I would withdraw my lawsuit apart from a reasonable sum for emotional distress---a sum of perhaps $2,000.00 plus additionally occurred expenses caused by the refusal. The point of the lawsuit would be to show that the offense was serious. Insisting upon huge monetary awards only hurts other people.Chance as a real force is a myth. But you provide no reason why these ancient practices are in any way relevant for us today.
