I would guess that there is a rather high correlation between good language skills and education, intelligence, and general knowledge. Right or wrong, I pay more attention to someone who can write well (with good spelling and grammar, and proper use of the damn shift key) even if I don't agree with them. In a similar manner, I tend to judge people in public by the clothes that they wear, and how they wear them. In this place, your words are your clothing.
So, what to do? Either take the time to compose your message with care to help ensure that it is taken seriously, or rebel and take the chance that it
won't isn't.
