Interestingly, many languages (French, for example) don't make a distinction between "of" and "from" at all. It's the same word.

is a religion, requiring "faith", then freedom to "practise" atheism

Isn't that what the so-called "war on Christmas" is all about - the desire to be free
from other people's religions?
