My understanding was that the Higgs Boson was predicted from a mathematical model.
It is. And if one were to claim that this model is definitely the way that the Universe behaves, then one would be leaving oneself open to be being wrong. But no-one of whom I am aware is doing that. We are simply asking the question: "is this model the way the Universe behaves?" I have always found it difficult to be wrong when simply asking a question.
While I am very happy to be corrected I do hope you aren't lumping me in with the ignorant idiots that mock from the sidelines.
