Chuck,
What would you think if I started talking about, "The bible says this..", or "My friend told me the bible said that...", or "I read that the bible is wrong because it talk about unicorns..", etc. and when you confronted me and asked me, "Have you read the bible?", I told you, "Not really."
And when you let me know where I am wrong, by showing me what it does actually say, and I keep repeating what it doesn't say, not matter how many times you correct me, no matter how many times you explain that what I am telling you is actually not true, what would you begin to think? Maybe you would give up. Maybe you would start getting frustrated. Maybe you might even think I was being a bit arrogant and hard headed. I am sure you would start losing repect for me...if I consistently told you the bible said something it did not.
Nobody here, that I know of, is trying to convert you. (I am not pointing at you) But repeating false assertions, repeating someone elses lies about evolution, or repeatedly committing falacies, no matter how many times they are corrected is not the way to understanding. It is just trying to "win" a debate, and it disrespects those who try to correct the mistakes.
You're wrong about not conceding anything. Plenty of posters who ascribe to the the scientific process are willing to concede when they find that they were mistaken about something, though it might be like pulling teeth. There are posters who believe in creationism who find they were given erroneous information and accepted that they might not know as much as they thought; though they are a rare breed. The point is, you shouldn't confuse superior knowledge on a subject with entransigence. Plenty of posters here have gone through years of college level courses, and have submitted original researchand know what they're talking about.
If you came here to spout off and refuse to listen when posters who have more knowledge than you on a subject, tell you you are mistaken, then you won't get much respect. If you want to earn the respect you crave, then provide the data or research that supports your hypothesis.
