It is a double edged sword, but the doses of steroids usually have to be high dose. Problem being they supress the immune system, however in the face of systemic infection a problem.
Also sometimes the use of infusions of Gamma globulins can help.
I do not know what autoimmune dz you have. It will get better though, day by day is all we can do. Tincture of time. Have they tried Methotrexate?
