Re: New member is confused
I think there is an environment here on this site that is not the most cordial to creationists because in the science forums, moderators will activly pressure the participants to present evidence and to move the discussion forward.
This is unlike other sites that simply allow free-for-all type discussions.
This is a paradigm that has proven frustrating for creationists and others. Recently there was someone who left feeling frustrated about being unable to support her belief in alternative medicine. Even evolutionsts have left some discussion frustrated when they did not have evidence to support their ideas. I think one had to do with a discussion about bigfoot.
I think the key here is that this site is dedicated to allowing creationists and IDers to step up to the plate. Many time creationists and IDers claim that they HAVE evidence for their views and that their views are scientific. Here at this forum, those claims come under very close scrutiny.
That being said, this forum is also home to many people who are incredibly knowledgable in various fields in both science and religion.
There are still a number of creationist or ID members although they don't seem to want to post in science forums on primary topics related to EvC for some reason.

Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget)

Re: New member is confused
A couple of suggestions,
1. Remember this is a message board and not a chat room. Too many times people get caught up in both the volume and frequency of posting. Especially if you are a creationist, you are likely to get many responses to your posts because quite simply, you are outnumbered. You don't have to hurry to respond to everyone. It is much better to take a day to craft a good reply than to spend all day sputtering off 1-liners to all the various posts.
2. If you find yourself dealing with too many replies, you can request and set up what is called a 'Great Debate' topic where you can debate 1 on 1 with someone in a moderated way on any focused topic you like. If you spend some time here and find someone on the opposite side of the fence that you have some rapport with, you can debate in a controlled setting. There are many people here who are practicing biologists or geologists who like to debate and they are a GREAT resource for learning.
3. Remember that this is debate, moreover on a very controversial topic. I think some of the people who run away forget that this is a place where your ideas are going to be challanged and criticised. Often criticised very harshly. Just keep your expectations realistic and you'll do fine.

Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget)

Debate Options
Another option for you if you are feeling a bit flustered by so many responses is to hang around for awhile, pick someone you like to talk to and see if they would like to do a Great Debate with you in a 1 on 1 scenario.
Unfortunatly for new people there is a bit of that difficulty curve inherant to stirring up the hornets nest. Good luck and welcome.

BUT if objects for gratitude and admiration are our desire, do they not present themselves every hour to our eyes? Do we not see a fair creation prepared to receive us the instant we are born --a world furnished to our hands, that cost us nothing? Is it we that light up the sun; that pour down the rain; and fill the earth with abundance? Whether we sleep or wake, the vast machinery of the universe still goes on. Are these things, and the blessings they indicate in future, nothing to, us? Can our gross feelings be excited by no other subjects than tragedy and suicide? Or is the gloomy pride of man become so intolerable, that nothing can flatter it but a sacrifice of the Creator? --Thomas Paine
