I changed it in my profile (from "US" to "international"), saved, then re-viewed profile.
The setting is back to the original. (added in edit) Good news is the actual functionality AND the "set" function in the profile seems to be working fine. I guess it's only the "get" function in the profile, for this one field, that is failing. Makes sense? Ben This message has been edited by Ben, 26 December 2004 17:38 AM

I created a few new aliases (what is the purpose of this? Not sure...). Now, all 3 of "us" appear to be online in the "online" box at the top of the page.
That's really weird to me. But maybe that's purposeful behavior. (added by edit) The "other" me's are slowly disappearing from the "online" page. So, this is weird when creating new aliases (or I assume changing aliases), but not in general. This message has been edited by Ben!, 26 December 2004 18:14 AM

Somewhere along the lines, I guess during my profile editing, my signature got messed up. It used to be (I think) just some HTML code, which included an image. Now I guess you were doing some dbCode / HTML conversion stuff, but apparently it didn't work out.
I've included the signature here. Ben

Sorry to be dumping so many things at you at once... I'm just having fun with the new functionality, setting things up JUST how I want them It's cool...
I set my message display order to "reverse" and my "# messages per page" to 5. Here's the current behavior: 1. If I go to "all topics" and click on the topic title, I'm brought to the first page, where I see the first 5 messages in reverse chronological order. This is weird, and not useful behavior. If I have reverse order, I want to be taken to the last 5 posts, not the first 5 posts! 2. If I actually click on the last page for a thread with 22 posts, I'm not given the last 5 posts. I'm given the last 2 posts (22 mod 5 = 2). This is a little weird too. I think these two behaviors are weird, but of course this is not critical stuff. Ben

When replying to a message, the help area on smilies is gone. Especially with the new smily icons, I wanted to check out what the new icons look like, if there's any new ones, and how to make them all.

2 more, and then i'll finish
Your "members" link is ... the most basic functionality seems to work (find a member by name, etc). However, some of the less basic functions don't work as expected: 1. Find by email, you get a person's email address as the result, but no info about the username. However, the email address is treated as if it is a username in the results table, leading to ... weird behavior in generating the appropriate links in the table. 2. The "sort by" functionality does not sort the current results. It seems to sort the default 'empty' search (i.e. ALL users) only. I didn't play around with the page anymore, as it seems there's a lot to be tested, and I didn't have great success with what I played with.

Last one for now.
In old posts, sometimes people use links to other messages. I really never experienced these failing, but now some do. Maybe because you've changed some links / functionality? For example, inEvC Forum: All about Brad McFall. Brad links tohttp://EvC Forum: The DEFENDER'S Study Bible -->EvC Forum: The DEFENDER'S Study Bible Which fails with the following message:

I said it was my last, but...
I clicked on the "help" to get the dbCodes help when composing my reply (http://http://www.evcforum.net/cgi-bin/dBCodes.cgi). I got a 500 server error.

Title:
Wrong link generated when using search page to access a specific post. repro:1. set # of messages per page to 5 (i hate scrolling!) 2. search (I searched for "Gottlieb" to see if Brad had posted a review the book "Individual Development & Evolution) 3. Click on the message that will bring you to the first result (message 46 of some thread) Expected:To be taken to message 46 (i.e. the following URL to be produced) http://EvC Forum: Theory of De-evolution!!!!! -->EvC Forum: Theory of De-evolution!!!!! Current:I was taken to page 4 of the thread (posts 16-20) Notes:Apparently the paging was not calculated based on my settings, but some other settings (hardcoded?) Here's the link that was produced: http://EvC Forum: Theory of De-evolution!!!!! -->EvC Forum: Theory of De-evolution!!!!!

Problem:
Broken image link in search results page Repro:1. go to the search page. 2. search for the text "gottlieb" in the text of messages Expected:Results page to show with no broken links. Moods should be linked using EvC Forum: Webpage not found! Current:Page shows, but the image for "message mood" is broken for all results. The link is EvC Forum: Webpage not found! Notes:You allow directory browsing of the Images directory and all subdirectories. Just FYI.

Either that, or you can't expose the page number (or any other calculated property) in any URL. You'd have to expose only what is fixed (the post number).
If you really wanted to keep the old functionality, then you'd probably have to keep some old logic in your script, where IF you see a page number in the URL, then you assume that it's from the old functionality, and you calculate based on the old hardcoded number (15). Don't know if this helps. Ben

Cool. Sounds like the right thing to do.
Like I said before, you might want to keep some "legacy" code in there, such that if you actually see a "page number" in the URL, you translate it based on your old assumptions. You could also set it up to email you (for exmple to email you the referring URL, so you can see where you might have missed an old link) when you see that "page number" variable. Just a suggestion.

2 more from this morning:
1. If you click "forgot your password" when you're NOT logged in, you get a 500 error. NOT HELPFUL! 2. If you click on a URL with a bookmark from an email, but are not logged in, you are given the login screen. If you then login, you are forwarded to the original URL--but SANS the bookmark. So you're brought to the top of the page, instead of the proper message. Ben

As far as I can tell, ALL links (both those on the sidebar as well as those in the text) are completely outdated in the FAQ page.

Profiles work with dBCodes, but not with HTML. I inserted an img tag () and now all i've got is the closing tag and the text afterwards.
I didn't test to see what happens with other tags. Maybe it's just IMG. Ben
