Author | Topic: Budget Deficit Forecast cut by 100 Billion | |||||||||||||||||||||||

How about that, Bush's tax cuts are working. I don't see that. I see an article that says that the budget overrun is going to be less than originally projected. I never heard of a CEO or a company that would hire someone or build a factory simply because they had a little extra cash. Companies hire people and create jobs when its profitable to do so. Does Bush's tax cuts suddenly make it profitable to do that? I don't understand how it would but I invite any of you to explain it to me. No Bush-bashing, no partisanship, just a discussion of economics. Try, when you respond to me, to keep in mind that I voted for Bush.

Hi, Monk.
I guess I read a little more into the OP than just the $100 billion was good news. Anyway, I may have joked around with you some before, but I've never meant anything as a personal insult. As long as everything is cool. I suppose I should have written something a bit more substantial in my reply to the OP.

Yeah.
It's a classic Good News/Bad News joke. The Good News is that the Bad News is only 3/4 right. This message has been edited by jar, 07-13-2005 10:23 PM Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Yeah, I'd like to hear the reasoning as to how being $1,000 more in debt for every man, woman and child counts as "good news": I want to try it out on my bank next time I go $100 overdrawn.

That's somewhat close to a concession and is good as it ever gets in support of conservative viewpoints on this forum. Correct me if I'm wrong, but up till Bush got in the White House a "conservative viewpoint" was that deficits were bad, and less of a deficit is still a deficit? Call me when the 400 billion projected deficit gets closer to 1 billion, or let's say -1 million. Then we can talk about what "conservative" is. holmes "...what a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away.."(D. Bros)

Your concession, which you qualified, is that the $100 Billion is good news. That's all. Stop there. It's good news. So when a plane crash involving your entire family is projected to yield no survivors, and it turns out one member has managed to pull through as a quadraplegic near vegetable, you think: "good news"?
No offense at all at the sarcasm, Holmes keeps me busy with that. In this recent post on the Rove-Wilson affair I refrained from almost complete sarcasm (I think complete but I'm not sure).
This second post has a little bit of sarcasm, but certainly not too much. I am giving a little plug for my total and complete public depantsing of Monk. I didn't even have to use witty rejoinders, just documented proof of his errancy using a source he pretended to be knowledgable of, in order to smear an innocent man. The first post is more serious and necessary to read than the second, if you must choose between the two. The historical record couldn't be clearer. The Kennedy tax-rate reductions that triggered the prosperity of the 1960s and produced a windfall of government revenues indeed ended up helping balance the budget in 1964-65. Federal revenues doubled in the 1980s as a result of the Reagan tax-rate cuts. Today the evidence continues to mount that the Bush tax-rate reductions of 2003 also got the economy moving again and are leading to increased federal revenues. The most compelling evidence comes from the latest Congressional Budget Office monthly report, which shows the totals for the first eight months of fiscal 2005 and tells us most of the story for the whole year. The most notable figure in the CBO report is that corporate income tax receipts are up a stunning 47.5 percent this year. Individual income taxes are also up sharply this year, leaping 20.5 percent over last year. Bush's tax rate reductions, like JFK's supply-side tax cuts, have successfully reduced the deficit, despite Congress's continuing lack of spending discipline. While outlays have jumped by $110 billion so far this year, revenues have far outpaced them, rising by $183 billion and thus closing the budget deficit by $73 billion.
link In short, tax cuts spur economic growth and all ships rise with the tide which puts more revenue in the Govt's treasury. Or the Good News is that the problem is 1/4 solved. I think that's huge considering 911.

The problem created by whom? Which administration caused it to begin with? What party currently controls spending in our nation?

Holmes writes: So when a plane crash involving your entire family is projected to yield no survivors, and it turns out one member has managed to pull through as a quadraplegic near vegetable, you think: "good news"? No, that's not good news, it's bad news. There is no shortage of bad news. For the "cup is half empty" crowd, there is no such thing as good news. (Except a Hilary win in '08)

You just can't help but advertise yourself. Why don't you let readers decide for themselves? Giving yourself a little plug? Ha, that's an understatement. You can't help it, it feeds your insecurity. Sad
But your tactics have been exposed here You were also treated to your very own special can of Whoopass here Followed by, The Public Flagellation of Holmes here

Actually, a lot less than 1/4. Besides the deficit we still need an educational system that educates, we need housing for those in substandard housing (or even homeless), we need medical care available to those without insurance, we need a decent income for those unemployed and underemployed. A balanced budget doesn't even begin to address the disparity in wealth and living standards that exist in this country.

Except a Hilary win in '08 Why do you keep mentioning this when talking to me? I admit I liked her a while back, but once she fully entered the political arena, and certainly moe recently I have not liked her much at all. I am actually not wanting to see her run in 2008 (I am sick of families dominating govt positions anyway), and the reps could field someone I'd like more than her. By the way, there has been good news. I was happy that we knocked the Taliban out of power, and still hope something can be made out of the mess that is Iraq. But I'm not about to view lesser bad news as tantamount to good news.
Giving yourself a little plug? Ha, that's an understatement. You can't help it, it feeds your insecurity. Sad Okay, it's a big plug. This actually doesn't have to do with my insecurity though. I am sort of proud of what I did, and I would like to make sure people know it is there and so increase the likelihood of people seeing it. Sometimes I get noticed for stuff I wasn't really excited by myself, while things I liked get no notice. And this also was an attempt to cover my bases to make sure you would see it and respond. Honestly there is simply no way around the mistake you made, and I am hoping to see you finally admit an error, and more importantly than that address what the truth of the situation means regarding Rove and Bush. Go ahead and plug your counter posts. I really don't mind at all. More importantly though, plug your original post as well as my response (#77) and let people decide who came off better. holmes "...what a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away.."(D.
