I am not a number!
But I have become Number 10
Just signed up my laptop - have to start leaving it on a bit longer!
Don't know how much run-time it will get, but while signing up I did notice (unexpectedly) that there is a Linux version. I have a Linux box that's not doing much currently, so I'll see if I can get that hooked up as well.

Re: Results so far: 203 ... rank #3352 ...more volunteers needed!!!
When I signed up I selected the "do any" option for my laptop as I'm happy for my spare CPU cycles to work on both.
Since then I added my Linux box which can only do the protein folding (not 'cos it doesn't have the legs - it's hunkier than my laptop - the FightAIDS@home option isn't available for Linux), so I guess I can force the laptop over to do HIV. Actually whenever I've checked it's been doing that anyway.

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Proteins need love too
Just as an aside, most of the comments made by folks seem to heavily favour the HIV research over the protein folding project.
Although you can't deny the huge importance of HIV reseach I think the protein folding project is potentially very important too, even if it doesn't have the 'glamour' of HIV research.
Quoting from the WorldCommunityGrid page about the Human Proteome Folding Project:
The Human Proteome Folding project will provide scientists with data that predicts the shape of a very large number of human proteins. These predictions will give scientists the clues they need to identify the biological functions of individual proteins within the human body. With an understanding of how each protein affects human health, scientists can develop new cures for human diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, SARS, and malaria.

Well it's not like I can claim any credit for all the hard work I'm doing
Note to those not signed up: once you've expended the few minutes it takes to set up the stuff on your machine you don't have to do anything else - it really is no pain, lots of gain.
The reason I'm getting so many results is I've got a fairly powerful Linux box essentially doing nothing but protein folding 24x7.
That might change in the new year as it's actually my MythTV box and to get it working properly I need to upgrade my aerial (I'm using Digital Terrestial Television rather than cable or satellite). Once I've got that done and I start to use it instead of my Tivo the amount of available CPU will drop.
On the other hand I might build another box to use as a Myth development system and general Web access box - so I could actually end up adding another system in around March

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Re: There's a noticable lack of Christians on the Team
I have to confess that the reaction HIV/AIDS brings out in some people was partly the reason I wrote the 'Proteins need love too' Message 85 to make sure people knew they could contribute to other very important research.

Yeah - I was kind of disappointed
It never hurts to try though.

Re: Tooting my own horn! (think what you will)
Yours truly just beat out MangyTiger with 216 results. Oh yea!!!
You got lucky - I had to go into hospital for three weeks late in January and it seems my broadband modem locked up within a couple of days of me going in.
As a result my 24x7 Linux box didn't do anything from the second last week in January until now.
I'm back home again now - I'll get the Linux box connected up again and see if we can't do something about giving you a run for your money

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then
