Re: no deception
Good topic, Iname!
Here is my 2 cents:
1) Look at the Pharisees. They knew everything there was to know about the laws of religion--and they followed them to a tee...but Jesus criticized them for not having the proper intentions and heart to go with their legalism.>>>>> Perhaps in the same way, NOW it is not about the science of the universe where humanity falls short. It is about our intentions, thoughts, and behaviors.....
Perhaps in the soul of the human animal, 1000 years IS like a day in that we are not really any different than our caveman ancestors were even though we are hundreds of thousands of years apart agewise (evolution) we are but a day removed from them in terms of common sense.
2) I don't believe that God is deceiving anyone. We are without excuse. We can point at the Bible and say that we don't trust the God portrayed therein, giving us our excuse.
God, on the other hand, could point to us and say that since we chose to reject the Bible, we are being judged on our understanding, behavior, and in regards to what we do know.

Re: no deception
without attempting to sound arrogant, I can tell the kind of stuff I can see truth and truisms within.

I checked him out....a bit pantheistic at times, but obviously a humble man full of wisdom.

Is God Deceptive?
Perhaps another way to look at this is to assert that God is not so much deceptive as humanity is paranoid.
  • Just because something does not line up with our human empirical knowledge does not mean we are being deceived. Perhaps there is a deeper lesson in our intentions versus our perceptions and conclusions.
  • Does it not say that in order to enter Heaven, one must be as a child? Children can allow for stretches of imagination that adults often reject as "silly". There are no deep Gnostic teachings that superced the simple faith of a child.
Does God owe it to humanity to have made everything in a way that humans can understand? Do humans owe God the courtesy of being logically consistant within our comprehension?
I suspect that God foreknew our misgivings long before we had the words to express them.

    Its the Reality, Stupid!
Good point. Evidently, God knows our thoughts, habits, and conclusions.
It may be that He knew long ago that we would someday question the Bible, the stories, and Him in general.
If this is true, we are only liable for our behaviors.
(For the Grace people) Professions and intentions are also behaviors.

Perhaps the question is: Are we as a society actually growing up, or are we a bunch of Lord Of The Flies kids who need some authority in our lives??
