I have a quick question, but I would also like to discuss the nature of the word "as", and the various ways in which in can be used. I would also like to discuss other such words because my knowledge of language ussage is not complete. Is this grammatically correct: As I wrote in my first letter, the manner in which I recall the chronology of certain events is not entirely accurate. Now, I want to know if I used the word as properly. Did that make sense. Also, did that sentence sound forced? That was the only way I could write it without sounding like an average bum off the street. And if indeed that sentence was moderately acceptible, it is in my posession. Do not pledjurise.

looks right to me. of course, I would've said "may not be entirely", but that's my style. I'm not sure about the forced part. "As I have written previously, the chronology of the events I remebered may not be entirely accurate" ??? depending on the effect, it can be better to be the average bum. for example, close to the end of Grapes of Wrath, there is a powerful passage, all dialogue, but it is said in plain spoken words.

That part is right but...
As I wrote in my first letter, the manner in which I recall the chronology of certain events is not entirely accurate I think the use of "as" is correct there. However, what does "the manner in which I recall" mean and is it correct. To me, "the manner in which I recall" means the way or method that I recall. What does it mean to recall in the wrong manner (or way), Here is one dictionary's def's: a way in which something is done or happens. a style in literature or art. (manner of) chiefly literary a kind or sort. So you are saying you recalled it was incorrect though what you recalled may be perfectly fine. Did you use drugs, take a cheat sheet into a test? What was wrong with the manner you used (the way you) remembered. I think it is not saying what you want to say but is grammatically correct.

So how is this?: As I wrote in my first letter, the chronology of events as I remember them may not be entirely acurate. I do however, remember the events themselves. Tell me if it sounds forced.

Guido Arbia writes: As I wrote in my first letter, the chronology of events as I remember them may not be entirely acurate. I do however, remember the events themselves. I'd prbably say something like:
quote: As I wrote in my first letter, my memory of the chronology may not be entirely accurate. However, I do remember the events themselves.
Are you saying you remember the events but not necessarily the order in which they occured? Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation.Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

Trust me, most of the time you would sound a lot better sounding like the average bum off the street.

I would have said: Forget what I wrote in the letter. Here is what happened. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Twenty Dollar Words
Lots of people use excessive verbage (and twenty dollar words, as I have heard them called) to express themselves. If you are comfortable using the vocabulary, by all means do so. If you are forcing yourself to sound more articulate in the hopes of impressing someone, however, it ain't gonna fly! By all means learn new words and practice your creative writing. Don't start throwing the words around until you feel comfortable with the intent of your meaning and message, however. Edited by Phat, : Mother Ringo
