Lots of people use excessive verbage (and twenty dollar words, as I have heard them called) to express themselves.
If you are comfortable using the vocabulary, by all means do so.
If you are forcing yourself to sound more articulate in the hopes of impressing someone, however, it ain't gonna fly!
By all means learn new words and practice your creative writing.
Don't start throwing the words around until you feel comfortable with the intent of your meaning and message, however.
