Re: Rahvin, Percy and Archer Opterix
Well for me it would be Percy for the reason you mention and because he just seems to be a very interesting guy.
I agree. I think it is fair to say that Percy's writings that have forced me to think most about my own position in my time here. Not in direct conversations with me. Just generally. My views have changed noticeably as a result.
Also, Straggler and RAZD.
Hah! I am honoured. And I would love to take part in that particular meet up. But as things stand it seems you would have to book two seperate tables and then pass notes between the two
On second thought maybe best if I had a drink with each separately.
That'd be fine too. I'd be delighted to drink with you. There are many here at EvC I would hook up with for a drink or two given the opportunity. Some because I am sure we would get on. Some who I would be interested to see if we could get on. And almost any because I would be very interested to put a face and real personality to the avatar and the writing.

Re: Straggler
We could throw theory out the window. I'm going to be in London at the end of September (26th) since my better half is going to be stood on some plinth in Trafalgar Square. Fancy having a drink?
Yep. That is a Saturday so I need to work out some of the finer details with my own better half - But basically yes.
I see you have an EvC email address. I'll send you some of my contact details to that and we can take it from there.
Cool. I am intrigued to meet both "The Mod" and to see your plinth dwelling other half do her public plinth thing. I am assuming a pub or two in and around Trafalgar square is ideal?

Re: Straggler vs Mod - Coffeehouse showdown
Good to meet you too! I felt bewilderingly tense too with your real reason for beng in the big smoke. But whilst I was fully in support of the points being made I was also resolute in my non-dancing. Call me an irrepresiable geek if you will.........
I had a great time! Should you ever be nearby again please do drop me a line!! And should I ever be in Manc I will definitely let you know.
For the record "The Mod" was everything those at EvC would expect him to be!! And I mean that in the best possible way!!

Re: Straggler vs Mod - Coffeehouse showdown
Handsome and well hung? Oooops...I mean, intelligent and well spoken?
Jeez you have high expectations! But let's just say that you won't be dissappointed. Nuff said.
This is pretty cool indeed, Straggler.
"Cool" is my middle name. Except when "uncool" is my real name. Which is more often than not.
Hopefully more members can meet too, seeing as how this is the new way the world is connecting and sharing ideas. No need to be secluded entities in front of a laptop, people were meant to communicate face-to-face.
Radical concept. You'll be advocating family dinners and physical contact next. Is there no end to your unique brand of madness?
And while oceans, states and cities divides us, it's cool to see you and Mod make the effort to get past those obstacles.
I was happy to do so. I extend that invite to most EvC members should they be in or near London at any point. Yourself (next year so you seem to think probable) especially. If we time it right maybe me, you, Mod and any other UK based EvCers can do a mass get together. Who knows.
Hope you guys had good times.
Yep it was definitely very cool if mildly surreal.
I should tell you that I am more than a little inebriated at the moment. Buurp.

Dude, I'm fuck'n hammered right now...having just done a show and drank Grey Goose all night.
Howza head today?

Im sure Mod appreciates the attention...
I would say Mod by name modest by nature

NO! There's no end, and if there was I would be out of a job, Straggler.
Ah yes the capacity for human invention......
May the madness continue. If you don't look me up when you cross the pond I will hunt you down and turn your toes into shoelaces.

I love it when we post drunken messages...I feel like everyone is kinda "real" at that point. I feel stupid a lot of times on this site most of the time and to know we're just a bunch of drunks behind a laptop makes me feel good.
Hah! I know exactly what you mean and could not agree more!

Re: Straggler
Whilst I missed the end of the plinth session in question (for reasons of childcare - I would have loved to stay till the end) there was no nudity that I am aware of. Apparently being naked on the plinth is art whilst being naked in the street is "indecent exposure" (and thus illegal)

Re: Straggler vs Mod - Coffeehouse showdown
Not bad, how's yours?
Much better now I am back on the "juice" again! We get free beer on Friday at work (Aussie company - Aussie rules) and now a few glasses of the vino de Argentina at home. Feelin much "better". Hic!
The other comic woke me up to go the gym at around 9am today (I drank till about 3am).
That is impressivley dedicated. I have not done that sort of hardcore shit since I was marathon training years ago now.
I went to the gym, worked out a bit, threw up a bit, hit the sauna, threw up some more... Show time is at 7:30pm which is in about an hour and a half, and my glass is half full once again with the funny juice.
Will we ever learn?
Stay tune for more late night inebriated posting.
Amen to that! I'll be singing online at this rate.
Understood! When I do though, tell the wifey it's gonna be an all nighter (drink'n and what not) with a guy you met on an internet forum... she'll understand.
Hah! Yeah riiiiight! You obviously know latino women! Passionate, fiery and completely reasonable and understanding regarding drinking with "strangers". I'll sort something out though don't you worry.

Re: Straggler vs Mod - Coffeehouse showdown
Are you fuck'n serious?
Yeah. No joke.
Sorry, (drunk and smoked) again tonight...
Tut. Tut. Tut.
They give you FREE beer on Friday?
Yeah. And wine. And alcopops for those so inclined. Around St Paddy's the Guinness was flowing. During Wimbledon Pimms was available. Around Burns night scotch was on the menu. You get the idea. But beer o'clock basically revolves around the crates of the cold fizzy stuff that you and our Ozzie cousins are so fond of. But there is some decent variation to keep the more fickle/adventurous happy. Usually enough of everything to get all those so inclined reasonably tanked. Friday afternoons can often be a pub induced right-off and then the free beer flows officially. It must be an Aus/Brit thing.
Really, who gives a shit about a Hawaiian shirt?
I would rather microwave my own eyeballs than wear a Hawain shirt.
I know the plight of the married man and I sympathize.
If the grass is always greener on the other side why are single men not constantly mowing the lawn? Or something like that........

Ouch!
Sounds like a lot of fun to work for an Aussie company then.
Work is work is work. But I do actually like my job and, yeah, overall it is better than most. But like everyone I want to be a rockstar (or "rockstar" comedian!!!!!! - You are livin the dream Oni) really.
I respect their ability to throw back HUGE cans of Fosters
Any sentance that contains both the words "respect" and "Fosters" is just sooooo wrong in my book.
I imagine your resistance is much the same?
At the moment my resistance is tellingly and unhealthily high. Yes I could probably even drink with Australians without flinching (in fact I do regularly). But it varies. When I hit the health kick, hit the gym and actually sort myself out as I do every so often my tolerance dramatically and very noticeably drops. But at 37 it is gettin harder and harder to do.

Re: Ouch!
I think I'd rather be a musician too, but we don't get to pick the art, the art usually picks us - at least that's been my experience.
Well in the art selection process I might well be the equivalent of the fat cack handed clumsy kid nobody wants on their sports team at school. Some enthusiastic but talentless stints at drumming and a latent desire to be a writer of some sort are about the extent to which any artform has ever wanted me on it's team.
Straggler writes:

Sorry, I'm American. What's your brew of choice?
Oh I'll drink most things but the deeply chemicalised artificially fizzed mass produced lagers of the world would be fairly low down the list. Not that this ever stops me. Pretensions of beer snobbery are all very well but if they get in the way of a good time I take a more pragmatic approach.
I don't know, my resistance is OK for an American I guess. I do better with straight liquor, vodka is my drink of choice. I can take a bottle down in 4 or 5 hours and still be well (if I ate before drinking).
Hard liquor man huh. Tequila is my personal loopy juice. Just cannot handle the stuff at all. My achilles heel (if I am to outrageously and arrogantly equate myself with Achilles even in this rather silly context)
I can't do that with beer though, however I do try to keep up if I'm drinking with guys from your side of the pond. It's like I feel I'm representing my country in a alcoholics contest of some sort. LOL
It is a sad reflection on the male psyche that we feel the need to compete in such ludicrous and self defeating acts of machismo.
Having said that of course should we ever meet up and hit the beers for a night the last man standing wins national honours and the right to eternally mock the other (and his nation) as a girly frilly dress wearing loser
Just don't start on the tequila..............

Drummin and Other Headaches
I drummed as well.
I think most wannabe rockstars who can't sing and who are too lazy to learn guitar do at some point
I did expand my repetoire to bongos and steel drums which was fun for me even if not those upon whom I inflicted my percussionary "genius".
I wasn't any good.
Oni I hate to break this to you, I know from personal experience that it is a hard fact to accept, but if we cannot even make it as drummers into our thirties we should probably give up on any remaining hopes of making it as a bonafide rockstar. Don't shoot the messenger.....
My 12 year old daughter plays them very well. She's in a school "rock" band and shows good promise.
Good for her. Girl drummers are cool.
Do you still write?
Not really. Some ideas for short films. Some of which me and a mate have actually made in times gone by. Although even then we haven't made one for a couple of years. I would love to write a book. But who wouldn't?
I'm writing 2 pilots now for next years sitcom pitch season, which starts in February. Got a movie script that I need to put on paper already, been working on the concept for 3 years now.
Cool! You are at least doing the creative thing and making it part of your life and career. Good luck with it.
Tequila makes me throw up in my mouth... just the smell makes me queezy. Are you a Patron man, or Cuervo?
I have no fuck'n idea!! If I have got to the "Let's do tequila stage" I am too far gone to know what the hell I am doing. If it tastes like rancid worm juice (with salty lime) and sends me over the edge of lunacy then I know it is tequila. But what kind is really rather irrelevant by that point.
Straggler writes:

I don't know if it's a sad thing, one could argue that that type of competitiveness has brought about a lot of progress from our (any) species. Now we're reduced to drinking games and beer funnels, but it's part of our male genetic makeup IMO.
Well I like your attitude. The next time my wife complains about such things I will tell her that without psychologically flawed dicks like me the human species would still be living in caves. If that doesn't confuse her into submission nothing will (nothing being far more likely)
...AND, must take a picture of shame and have that as the avatar for 1 month.
Now I am scared..............

Re: EvCcon ftw!
It would be especially fun to get several of us together. To see if our debating styles carry over into the real world, and if our most eloquent posters are as interesting in person as on this site.
But what if they are bumbling bewildered idiots in person? How disappointing would that be? Some things are maybe best left to the imagination.
I guess my dream would be some kind of EvC convention with some of the top posters as speakers, and live debate.
If you believe it will happen.......
So Wayne's World II taught us anyway.......
Imagine Razd and straggler duking it out on stage. We'd probably have to make that the last debate of the convention.
Pistols or swords? Darn that cad. I will have him at fifty paces!!
