Guys, as much as I appreciate you guys all jumping in about the gay marriage issue, I realized that it was a lost cause with faith long ago. All you're doing now is letting her dodging an important question I have for her that is somewhat related to the OP.
Let me ask the question again. When Bush was governor of Texas, he openly supported that law that criminalized homosexuality. Enforcing a law and openly support it are two different things.
Faith, do you or do you not agree that it was an unjust law and that Bush had no conscience when he openly supported that law? Please answer directly. Don't try to derail this to gay marriage again.

Re: Marriage
it is not about anybody's marriage, it's about the
meaning of marriage
as an institution
as a principle
in the abstract
What is this exactly?
surely it's not about reproduction as I could do that pretty well without marriage.
surely it doesn't have much to do with your specific god as it has existed in almost every religion and culture even in ones that have no connection Judaism
What is the meaning beyond a bond between two people?
the status it has in people's minds.
Most would agree it has something to do with love most of the time.
That is why in a sane society individuals have no right to do with it as they please.
Please define "sane society". I'm not sure if I can understand your stance without you doing so.
However this is no longer a sane society and all sane institutions are shot to hell already so go for it
What other "sane institutions"?
And like Huntard nobody will notice except those who know what it means.
we're giving you a chance too explain what it means however you seem to get mad when we ask you questions....

Are you certain of this? I can't find any evidence of it. Do you have a link?

It is an amazement that I've had for quite some time that not many people know about this particular part of Bush's past. Mainstream media certainly never even mentioned it. The law was finally struck down by the US supreme court in early 2000s. After that, Bush had been BSing that he supported gay rights all along.
Texas Court Strikes Down Anti-Gay Sodomy Law Supported by Gov. Bush
BBC NEWS | Americas | US court overturns gay sex ban
quote:
When George W. Bush was running for governor of Texas he was asked whether he favored retention of Texas' sodomy law (currently in legal limbo). He said, yes, he thought the state should keep the law, chiefly for its symbolic value.

Again, don't ask me why something this big escaped the supposed left wing media for so long. The man openly supported the law to throw people in jail for having sex with other consenting adults, and yet the American people voted him into the highest office. Twice.
It's only when the law was struck down by the US supreme court did Bush begin to distant himself from his previous position on the matter.
Cover up or not? You decide.

Yeah, I'll say. Thanks for digging that up, though I didn't need one more reason to marvel at how GWB could have been president of my country.

Re: That's messed up
See, this part of Bush's past was always obvious to me. I didn't even know that they did such a good job at covering it up that most people didn't know a damn thing about it. When Bush was elected the first time, I went around and kept asking people "why the hell did you guys vote for him? He openly supported anti-sodomy laws, which were a direct violation of personal rights and the constitution." All I got were blank looks. Then he got elected a second time and that was when it dawned on me that somehow Bush and his henchmen have managed to get the rest of the nation to forget how he wanted to end personal liberty for gay people.
I know it's sort of too late for that now, but I've made it my mission to make as many people aware of this as I can as a big "I told you so" statement.

Re: That's messed up
Sodomy is SUCH a LOVELY human expression, gee, if somebody opposes it what a creep he must be. I gather Bush was being a Christian and a true son of God. There are practical and governmental reasons not to criminalize sodomy and other things, but it's evil and God will punish it Himself eventually.

Re: That's messed up
That's a shame. My girlfriend and I enjoy some sodomy on a regular basis. I highly recommend it.
What does your deity have against sodomy, anyway? I get that "it's an abomination!" but I never got a reason beyond "I said it's icky!"
It's just sex. Assuming that your deity did in fact make us all, why did He stick so many pleasure receptors in the rectum if He thought it was so wrong to do anything that would stimulate them?
Oh - and fuck anyone who wants to say how my girl and I can or cannot be consensually intimate with each other int he privacy of our own homes without causing harm to anyone else. The State has no interest whatsoever into which specific orifice I insert my phallus.
I thought you were against government being too involved in our lives, Faith?

The world has been waiting with baited breath for God to finally make an appearance since the whole kit and caboodle began. At least then he can stop relying on people to do his dirty work.

As far as I'm concerned, let the fundies enjoy their 14th century values, but let the rest of us enjoy our 21st century values.

Re: That's messed up
Thank you for the answer. See how easy that was to answer directly... sort of?
Ladies and gents, I rest my case.
Added by edit.
In other words, Faith doesn't believe GWB is a just man, since she said there are reasons why government shouldn't regulate our sex lives. Wait, but he's a godly man and he supported criminalizing homosexuality... I'm confused.
So... let me see if I get this right. You can either be just or godly, but you can't be both.
